He says that his close up like that for about a week every once in awhile and then open back up as if nothing happened. He also says that others that have gotten them from him do it as well.
Tony - if you have another tank you might want to try switching it to the other.
I've had zoas purchased online that just wouldn't open up in my frag tank under MH's and so I moved them over to another tank with T5's and within a few days probably 95% of them were open.
Hey CHuck, found this article that seems interesting and might be my case with some frags I got from you about a month or two ago. They were doing fine and all of a sudden closed up and the yellow rim ones seem to be melting away. Barrier Reef told me I might be low on Iodine so I bought the test and I'm way high on Iodine. Wonder if that's what's doing it.
Anyways here's the link: http://coralpedia.com/articles004.php
I would question a test result that is way high on iodine (unless you are dosing iodine). Something just doesn't seem right there.
At any rate - good article. However, I don't think that the "normal" melting away of some zoas is necessarily what they are calling zoapox. May be two different illnesses that could have two different cures. However the cure for one could also possibly be the cure for the other as I don't think anyone really knows.
If your zoas are having problems it probably can't hurt to try the furan dip as suggested in the article.
I have some furan here. My next frag that starts to head South I will try the furan treatment on and see how that works out.
The ones I have I bought off of an RC member that was going off to college but I'm pretty sure than a lot of the LFS's carry it. Big Als should for sure.
