My Queen Angelfish Has Something?? Please Help

Work In Progress
About a week or so ago I noticed my queen angelfish started to get a little red mark on the side of him. One of my friends told me that it was a bacterial infection. I was told to go to the fish store and get melafix and start putting it into the tank. I have done so for about 2 weeks. The fish is not eating at all and kinda just sits there. His eyes are cloudy now and he is not doing so well. ANY IDEAS PLEASE HELP. This was once a beautiful fish and was eating and doing well. I just dont have the money to keep tossing a bunch of melafix into the tank constantly.

I have now quarentined him. Here are some pictures. I added some melafix into the QT tank. I have never done a QT tank before so I am not sure what to do from here?

When I click on the link, nothing happens? For right now, I would make sure you test the water and keep it up. Also, don't put to much food in the water. It will make the water go bad in the QT really quick, if he does not eat it within a few mins. I would remove it with a net and toss it. Unless it is Nori soaked in selcon, you can leave it on a clip.

Read on wetwebmedia about QT's. They have some good advice here as well at RC, but in my opinon, wetwebmedia is a more trusted site. Here anyone can post regardless of knowing what they are doing. With that said, you can also get a lot of good advice here and there. Its up to you to make the call. Just my .02.

You can also look up angel fish not eating and/or sick, by doing a google search just searching wetwebmedia. A little bit easier than RC.

Between the two sites you should get very good advice, there are others out there, but I just mainly use these two. 3reefs is another or something like that.

Let me know if you get the pics up or PM the pics.

Good luck,

Stu

Try the link again. I have now put the fish back into the main tank and blocked him off. I was told to do the following. Everyday dip the fish into freshwater with the same PH and temp as the tank with the meds in it. I am using some anti-bachterial meds. So I did that today and he is in the tank quarentined off by himself. I also put some vitamins in the water and turned on the UV. I got this information online and from a bunch of people. I am hoping this will do the trick.

Well good luck. My question would be if it is just bacterial why the FW dips? If the thought is flukes that are causing a bacterial infection then OK. How long have you have this fish? Did you QT it and treat it when you got it? I would look into using Prazipro. I think some people have used it in their main tanks but you should research that a little more before you do it.

I agree with RBU1..dont understand the fw dip if its bacterial. I also find removing the queen everyday from the dt to be very stressful. I would've treated with an antibacterial med such as marycn2 in a qt. good luck ..keep us posted.

Hey guys, thanks for everything. Queen is still doing well. I have used iodine on his eyes and that seems to be working. I did that for about 3 days. I have been doing the FW dip for about a week now. I was told to do it for about 2 weeks. I was dipping him in the marcyn-1. I currently have him qted off in the tank using egg crate so I can monitor him. I got rid of the QT tank cause it seemed to be stressing him out. He has been swimming around today quite a bit still bumping into things and has not eaten at all for about a month. Any ideas?

If this is a true case of an internal bacterial infection, which the red streaks you have described could be, then I believe the dips and such you are doing may not help with that.

I has a very simliar situation with a Morrish Idol

I put him in his own QT cycled QT tank and treated a full course of Maracyn II as instructed. After the treatment, i did some water changes and added carbon. After this he began to eat again. It has taken almost three weeks for the internal damage, which was represented by the streaks to go away (heal).

The dips and such will certainly help for a fluke situation, and the angel may indeed have flukes, but for the bacterial infection you are describing, i dont think you will be able to resolve it in the DT as mentioned.

Again, pictures woudl help greatly.

HTH,

here are some pictures of today. Notice the eyes are starting to clear up. Seemed blinded tho.

Here is when I first diagnosed the problem about a month ago. His eyes were pretty much all white and cloudy at this point.

Furthermore, he used to have a lot of fin rot and red around the fins. Now that is completely gone after treatment. I am not sure what to do from here. Again he is swimming around but bumping. Not eating period. QTed in my 300ga by use of egg crate. Has a large live rock with him. Any ideas? I was told to keep dipping him for about another week and continue iodine treatment.

He should really be in a cycled qt tank. It looks like your qt is too small for that fish, meaning it is hard for him to turn around, doesn't have any hiding spots. That is probably why he was stressed in the qt.

I wouldn't dip the fish every day, it is too stressful and not necessary.
When you did your fresh water dip did you see any flukes fall off? If so treat with prazipro. If not you need to consider some of the other problems mentioned above.

Again, I do not have him in the QT any longer. He is in the 300 ga with plenty of room but he is QTed off using egg crate, read above.
