My RBTA split again! (after only 10 weeks)

I got a surprise call from my wife this morning. She said "Where once there were two, now there are three!" She let me stew on that for awhile thinking she was pregnant or something before letting me in on the fact that one of anemones split and now there are three.

The last time is split was back on July 9th only about 10 weeks back --> http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1427435

The main "mother anemone" split again at the bottom of my tank.

They are positioned very close together and I can barely notice any tears or distress on the two of them. I am going to have start selling these!

Here are all three now:

Wow congratulations! I wish mine would stop being lazy and finally split.... Good luck with future and frequent splits!

Thanks. I am not sure when or why they split. I had not even been feeding it much since the last split as I was ramping back into it.

Good luck.

Feeding alot and frequent water changes help them to split. I started with 1 last December. I have 5 now. They are all healthy and thriving.

What are you feeding your RBTA?

I had mine split from 1 into 3 within a 12hr period. The mother split and then the one that moved away a little bit split again that day. So i had a medium/large, small/medium and a tiny/small. They all seem to be doing good i traded the middle sized one.

I feed all my rbta and sebae whole krill and mysis soaked in selcon every 2 or 3 days more, if you are trying to get them to split. Frequent water changes will also do it. They may go into hiding when they are splitting.

I feed them krill primarily. Once and awhile they get some mysis shrimp when I am feeding the fish. I used to feed them every few days. I have gotten a bit lazier now and they are fed maybe every week or week and half.

For whatever reason, I also peel the shrimp to just give them the "meat".

My water changes have been about a 25 gallon change once every 4 weeks lately. That's about a 15% water change.

I started to target feed my corals a few times with a reef chili, rod's reed, cyclopeeze concoction, but I think my overall nutrients are too high so I am water changing smaller portions about every week or so. I started that procedure a week after this last split though.

I have my Euroreef skimmer set so that I need to empty it every ~2 days.

your sps have fantastic coloration

Thanks. This is my first salt tank and my 120 gallon has only been up and running for about 6-7 months. It is primarily SPS are they are growing quickly.

The green capri. has gone from dark green to a medium green which I hope to correct. I may try a 14K bulb in the future to see if that helps.

At any rate, the anemones like the current lighting - 2 VHOs (1 actinic, 1 super white) + 2 250W 10K Ushio MH.

Thanks.

what kind of sand do you have in your tank?

I went with a Reef Special Grade Sand from Premium Aquatics. I am not sure of the exact name - I can check on it. It was a larger grain sand. It does not blow around much by the flow.

Since a friend took his tank down, I have been supplementing it with his sand - a sugar size type that has been mixing in now.

I have a cucumber that keeps it all turned over quite well.

Thanks.
