My reef photos, not quite tank of the month

I'm hoping everything fills in more. Maybe someday I can make a candidate for tank of the month. Been doing reefs for over 20 years. This is a foam board background build.

Water changes are rare in this tank. Had a hair algae problem that lasted a long time, it's all gone now. Just was gone one day. I think some of the resin was creating silicates the algae could feed off.

so nice looking. I love seeing the built foam backgrounds, they make the tank look so natural when corals are growing off of them.

I had this tank going for a while. Went to San Diego and the AC went out in our house. 112. wiped out everything except yellow polyps that were reduced to a nub. THey are seen in my current tank in the middle. I use to show this pic because it had nothing but a half working skimmer on back. I think I'm pretty rogue when it comes to reefing. I rarely do water changes or dosing.

Very nice tank.
How do you export nutrients in your tank?
How do you control nitrate and phosphate?
I run GFO and change water alot, BB and appropriate sized skimmer but I always have to struggle with the algae issue.

DT in post #1 is fantastic!

I'm curious based on the pic in post # 9, how you filter your current tank? Sump, skimmer, GAC/GFO reactors, ATS, yadda yadda.

Thanks,

Mike

Back in the day I had a remora hob skimmer. Obviously I couldn't use that with a bg board so i went with the sump. I'm a firm believer of getting as much live rock as you can in a tank. It can detox a lot of misc crap floating around. I did add a chiller living in bakersfield.
