My Rod Onyx Died!

I came home today and my girl was asking me why there was only one clown in the tank. I searched all around inside the tank and found nothing, confused i looked around the tank and found my clown had done some carpet surfing =(.

The one that passed away had a history of jumping out of the tank for no apparent reason, so now i have a single female...does everyones clowns always jump out of tanks? I know a bunch of people without covers so...before i get another clown or my current clown does a suicide, do all clowns have a history of jumping out? I saw a pic the other day of clowns in a zero edge tank so im pretty confused and sad heh.

I would say jumping clowns are very rare. Was the fish being harassed?

Prolly by the other clown. I had a rod's jump one time...it sucked. I ordered 2 more, and put an anemone in the tank. That kept the clowns off the top of the water. 2 paired up and developed...the other I paired with an onyx WC clown. I guess I was worried I may have another jump.

Sorry about losing that clown...they're real cool fish and losing one is tough!

Yea oddly enough a Mantis Shrimp and Gorilla Crab molted today at the same time....odd i've never seen either though two weeks back i did kill a gorilla...guess it had company.

Wow dude you have a mantis? I really doubt that would be the case, but you definitely have to kill that crab and shrimp :hammer: hmm no scratch that thought .... murder them!!! :uzi:

I still have both molts, did the research, definitely both of em. Time to break all my rocks...i need rubble rock anyway.

Jumping clowns are NOT rare, I've lost two due to carpet surfing. I'm told if they don't host in anything and like to sleep near the surface, they are more prone to jump. Not sure if that's true or not, just a fellow clownfish owner theory.
