My Shallow Cube Build Thread

Couple of updates.

I should be getting my stand and skimmer tomorrow so I decided to work on my sump area and get it as ready as I could.

Here are some pictures of my sump area 3/4 ready to go.

Regular view. The clear tube runs to my washer/dryer drain. I'm using a blueline pump to automatically pump water change water to the drain. The Brute garbage can holds 44g of fresh salt water. I have it plumbed so the RO/DI will refill it once its empty and I open the valve to refill.

Birds eye view of the sump area. I had so much extra room in this massive sump I made up a frag rack and went out and bought a used HQI pendant to hang over the frag rack. I seem to be good at fragging things with my big gorilla hands but I don't want the plugs in my display. :)

Another view. The open side of the PVC "T" is going to have the emercency Durso drain pipe from the tank plugged up to it. Obviously if I ever see water coming out of that bulkhead I know I've got an issue.

Closer look at the pump area. BTW, the decals they give you on the plastic packets from Twopartsolution.com peel very cleanly off and stick nicely to the jugs for labeling! :)

Also finsihed up my refugium. I have a 7" DSB and a back up emergency drain line.

This will go inside the stand. The fuge and ballast should be the only two things in my stand.

Might put the ballast to the frag HQI in the stand too. Not sure yet.

Looks good. Definitely put a clamp on the vinyl hose attached to the water change pump.

Workin on that ;). I want one of those plastic ones.

I'm in the mood to take some pictures.

I mounted the pendant to the ceiling. I was worried how it would look with cables hung from a cathedral ceiling but I'm happy with it.

Really needs a tank under it :(

I made up a bracket to mount my Azoo fans to so that they were really close to flush with the top of the tank. What they give you makes it stand up really really high in the air and I didn't like that at all.

I love the sparkle factor this tank has because of the polish job. I wished I could get it to show up really good. Its got the finish of an exotic car.

Looking Great.....What kind of skimmer are you going to be running?

Deltec APF600

The last of my equipment is in!
I'm somewhat in a rush to make a dinner party so the light fixture isn't lined up and some minor details.

I am in shock at the quality build Chris Stires did. He is an absolute craftsman and the attention to detail is all over the place. He put hinges on that slow the cabinet door down when its pushed closed and gently closes it the rest of the way. Very neat indeed.

Thanks cashman! Your tank is amazing too.

I did get my frag pendant hung today but nothing else.

I'm hoping to get it plumbed tomorrow

Love the PS one just sitting there casually!

lol, my son loves that thing

lol

Well, its almost midnight on July 4th. I've had quite a bit of brandy and beer and I can't sleep.

Might as well cut a hole in my living room wall and run some PVC!

Besides, if I get the pressurised side glued I can start the tank earlier. The drain side shouldn't need a full 24 hours right?!?!?!

:D

Alright, its almost 1am (I NEVER stay up this late, I'm an early riser) and the high pressure return lines are all cut and PVC glued.

That will give my high pressure stuff almost a full 24 hour curing time. Tomorrow morning I'll get up and cut & glue the drain lines and give them another 12 hours before I do a fresh water leak test.
