Really? I had no idea the sixlines could be jumpers

Thanks spleify! Its my dream nano tank and I'm very thankful I was able to get everything just the way I wanted it.

Couple updated pics. I changed the sump plumbing significantly. Worked most of the day on it.
The water is still pretty cloudy

I picked up a beautiful Midas Blenny. Most I've seen are more yellow, but this guy is more orange than he is anything else. Once the water clears and he gets more at home I will take some better pics of him.

yeah - fish! what changes did you make to your sump?

I'll have to post pics tomorrow.

I split the main drain into two drains so that it slows down the water before entering the sump. I also am planning on running filter socks and I don't want my refugium drain to run through a filter sock.

So I drilled a bulkhead into the side of the sump for my simple fuge return and T'ed the main drain.

I also raised up the ATO to keep the sump water level much higher to help control micro bubbles.

Filter socks should help with the micro bubble problem. Just make sure you still have enough room in the sump for a power outage scenario. Have you done a test run to make sure the sump won't overflow? Do that even if you are certain you have enough room. There's a surprising amount of water in the plumbing in addition to the display tank water you'll siphoning back to the sump when the return shuts down.

Looks great, BTW. I love the blenny.

Tank looks great.

I'm not sure that one snapper pump will be enough flow for SPS, you may need to throw in a tunze 6025 or 2 to help with some additional turnover.

How are the drain lines working out? I was a little concerned at that last picture of the sump with the drain line dipping down under the sump. Also, on your fuge drain, could you re-arrange where the ball valve is so that it is up top on the vertical run instead of the horizontal drop? Might help with the flow into the fuge.

awesome looks great so far. would love to see a FTS with the pendant. i love hanging lights. also, i too can attest to Sea in the City's service. I haven't even bought anything from there yet as i'm still planning (and saving pennies =P ), yet they spend tons of time with me answering questions and whatnot.

tagging along too =D

Watch out for that cyano outbreak 99% of all tanks experience....thats an SPS killer.

Cyano kills SPS? Thats news to me.

My old tank always had some cyano some place and it was packed full of SPS

Almost 2,000 gph not enought for a 40g display?????
What do you have on your tank, a Mercury?

Drains are working great. As I anticipated, micro bubbles are the biggest issue. Filter sock fixes it but I'd like to find a way without them to eliminate that added maintenance if I can.

My fuge has WAY more flow ability than I'd ever want it to have. I have to keep the ball valve 3/4 closed to slow the water down enough. Keep in mind, the fuge drain is just a bulkhead at the bottom of my overflow box. There is no stand pipe.

Here is the sump

Reef2107.jpg

The Red line is the refugium return. The flow is slow and has no micro bubbles in the water stream so it bypasses the first stage of the sump. I also didn't want the skimmer picking up the micro life coming from the fuge.

The green line is the emergency drain. Both the display and fuge have a seperate line and bulkhead deticated to emergency flow only.

Purple line is fresh SW from storage tank.

Yellow line is the main drain from the tank. I T'ed off the line to slow down the water coming through. So much water was coming though that one drain when it hit the water it was too turbulent.

Are you sure it was cyano, or algae?

What I mean, is that I wouldn't rush to start placing SPS' in a tank which has been recently set up-regardless if you've "seeded" the water from an established system.

Knowing what Cham's tank used to look like before he had to sell it off, im sure he knows what hes doing when it comes to stocking this bad boy........good luck to you.........Has anyone that you sold livestock to from the old tank offered to give you frags back? ie That insane Pink Birdnest?

LOL, I can't believe you remember the stock from my old tank. Your username isn't triggering my memory. Whats your real name?

And thanks for the compliment.

The guy I sold all my stuff to was from Miami, so alas no. My stock is gone.

For old times sake, my hot pink birdsnest with yellow tips (yellow is washed out with cheap camera and cheaper operator). It was the size of a volley ball
