My skimmer is going boooookoooo.

Uuuh I just looked in my sump and my skimmer is going berserk right now. It was running perfect earlier today and now I don't know what's going on. It's an ASM G1X w/ gate valve, mesh, and venturi mod... It's straight overflowing foam like crazy. Any suggestions on what is going on? Ay yay yay

What has changed recently? When is the last time you adjusted it? When did you mod it?

I did the mods about 2 weeks ago. I haven't adjusted the gate valve for about 4 days. The collection cup was about 3/4 full of dark skimmate and all of the sudden I looked in my sump and it was overflowing like crazy. No change in the way I fed, water change, etc.... Maybe it finally broke in and I just need to find the right adjustment? No matter where I turn it, it still does the same thing...

When you make adjustments, it takes awhile to see what result it has. Just leave the collection cup off, turn the gate valve down a little, and let it sit. Maybe even overnight. Small changes in adjustment can give big results, so go slow.

It could be just getting broke in since the mods. How old is the skimmer?

make sure nothing is blocking the venturi. I got a tiny bit of build up in mine and my skimmer went goofy too!

Yea, I'll do that. It's only a month old, so I'm pretty sure that's a big factor. :strange:

Ya. It's still pretty new. It'll take awhile for it to finish breaking in and you to get the adjustments right. It took me many months to get mine dialed in just right.

Haha. I was replying to the vid660's previous post! I just took the venturi off and cleaned it. Thanks for your help foooo' shooo!

Yep it was still going crazy this morning. I'm going out of town this weekend, so I may put the OEM downpipe back in and see if anything changes...

Hmmm. Is it possibly producing too much turbulance and/or too large of air bubbles @ the collection cup neck? As soon as my Uniseals get here next week I am going to do a recirculation mod as well w/ a bubble diffuser cup...so maybe that may help.

No, nothing died. It just started overflowing with an abundance of large bubbles... I've been out of town, I'll have to see how it is doing when I get home. However, I'm still a little clueless on why it is producing so many large bubbles at, and over, the collection cup neck.
