My skunk cleaner died

I found him this morning after I got home from work. Dead as a doorknob. I tested the water and it's still showing 0 for nitrite and ammonia and low nitrate. Salinity is 1.024. Any ideas? I drip acclimated him for an hour and my corals all seem to be doing fine as are the snails.

Seriously, two weeks after starting your tank and you are already adding sensitive invertebrates:confused: My advice to you is to slow way down, do some reading so you don't kill more livestock. Sorry if that is harsh, but someone needs to say it.

But dont worry, this is the part of the learning curve, you kill you learn:D

The idea of rc is to learn from others people's experiences instead. Nook is correct tank needs more time before the inverts

Never denied it.
All I was saying is no matter how much we think that we have waited enough, unless we kill things we cant control the impulse....

Lol. I did not have an algae spike. I have algae growing but it's not out of control. I have tested my paramaters every three days or so and have not had any high levels. I got some free Zoas from the frag swap that I put in. I did do some research and had seen that when adding a large amount of cured live rock you don't always have a long cycle and might never have a spike in ammonia or nitrite. I added 40 lbs of cured live rock so I thought I was in that boat. Especially since in two weeks I had not seen a spike of anything. Also, I'm pretty darn sure he was dead and not recently molted. I pulled him out and it did not look like a skin. Poor guy.

Maybe I should mention, I got the shrimp at the frag swap near the end. So he had been in that container for a LONG long time.

There's so many factors that could've been involved. I wouldn't dwell on it too much and take everyone's advice to slow down a bit. You'll have much more success and a lot more fun. :)

What was the salinity of the water it came in? I think your salinity is low as well but to each there own. How fast were you dripping water? drops per second. People ship livestock all over the world for much longer than a day or two in a tupperware.

I dripped him at about 1 drop a second and the salinity was at 1.026. The zoas were orange, blue, and brown/black. They were free because I won a raffle prize.

Not my donation! hah i gave away some zoas... but there was no blue on them. About the shrimp.... if it didnt have anythign to do with the early stages of your tank, sometimes shrimp can have a bad molt and just die... i had one a few years ago that was fine for a few weeks and while i was watching it it just fell to the ground and was dead... it was all stiff just laying on its back... its always a bummer when stuff like that happens :(
