My Smaller Percula Died

The last week has been a sad week for my little 2year old reef world. Apparantly a day or 2 went by & i didn't notice my Red Belly Blenny was missing. Since he likes to hide & whatnot, i figured I just wasn't catching him when he was out. Then I noticed my 2year old Royal Gramma not out, I eventually spotted him, but was acting very wierd & had whitish spots on him. I did a water change & added Garlic to there food right away. I was concerened that maybe the Blenny died & I couldn't find him & was poisoning the tank. My Clowns started having white spots/powder like dust on them over the last few days. I did 2 water changes & gave them all garlic everyday. When I went to bed last night I noticed my clowns were out swimming instead of inbed in their anemones like they were everynight & most of the day. when I got up, i checked the tank on my desk & my smaller percula was dead & very white. I took him out, did a water change, and added a carbon HOB filter. What I don't understand is that ALL of my mushrooms, both anemones, zoo's, rock polyps, frogspawn, torch. xenia, feather dusters, cleaner shrimp, snails, etc all look normal. They all open, etc..

I did a water test & for some reason my pH was below 8.0, which it has never been, & my Nitrates were above 160 even after multiple water changes this past week. All I have left as far as livestock left is my bigger percula & my hippo.

Any ideas? Things to do?

Whenever my #'s go back to normal, I dunno how to introduce a buddy for my percula without her hurting/killing the new percs. Is it just trial & error & hope the new clowns smaller but still hardy?

Sounds like ick to me to. Keep your tank fishless for 2 months to get rid of it.

What do i do with my remaining clown/tang? The clown is still alive with minor spots & tang shows no signs.

Good luck but that is REALLY bad. Seriously. I hope you can save him. I am not sure which but isn't the treament copper for both. I am treating a clown right now and it doesn't have nearly as many spots on it. I noticed like 5 to 10 total.

I got a QT setup, temp is good, etc.. how the heck do i get him/her out. I tried a net but it swam & hid.

OK, i went & picked up a UV sterilizer.. will that help the perc while in the tank at all or just help clean up the tank?

you must do an hyposalinity treatment to the sick fishes , and quarantine them for at least 6 weeks, you can find more about ich in the fish disease section of the forum.

For now, you can do a freshwater dip, so the clown will be eable to survive the other treatment.

Read above message, i can't get him out. he leaves town as soon as net is in water or you move while in the water.

give him metronidazole in the food, that helps if the fish is eating

or

you can use a clean plastic bottle, and cut the top of it, then put the bottom of the bottle into the tank with a small rock in it and with the net make him go to the trap.

Be ready because you must be fast in taking the trap out of the tank, the fish will be on it for 3 or 4 seconds at maximum.

This method always worked for me.

I read that alot of people just move there anemone, and the clown will lay in it, and they take the anemone out of the tank with the clown laying it. So if hes still hosting it you may want to try that. I've never done it but have read that its the easiest way if they are hosting something.

From the pic it looks like it might be to late to save him. You must get all of your fish out of your display and either do hypo, or copper and leave your main tank fishless for 2 months. Saying you can't catch him is ridiculous. Take the rocks out and get your fish out. All of your fish will die without treatment.

looks like amyloodium to me. too many white spots for ich and it sounds like it has cleaned out your tank in what 2 days? way too fast for ich. try and find where the fish sleeps at night and net him while he is out, much less stressful than chasing it through the tank. Use copper in the QT tank. I would then let the display run for at least 2 months before putting any more fish in it.

He "seems" to have stabilized.. Still has spots but is acting normal, eating anything i put in tank & its body looks full/fat. My tang "so far" seems to have no visible spots, and acting normal.

I have been running the UV Sterilizer for the last few days & dosing food w/ garlic.


I'll try catching him where he rests & i'll search for more info on amyloodium.
