I am not a fan of GFO. I never had good results running it, but haven't for at least 5 years now. If you take it offline just monitor PO4. I run biopellets so I dont worry about phosphate.
They are a solid carbon source. Used properly they are a great way of keeping nitrates and phosphates in check. I am a huge fan because they are cheap to run and implement and are extremely effective. Also low maintenance.
