My SPS stocking... opinions welcome

Ive lost corals that expensive before, its not a good feeling at all. But I'm pretty sure everyone in here has lost some corals before for one reason or another.

That's not really what I was getting at

If you're asking whether your selection of corals you have at the top of your posts are of good taste, I would say hell yeah, I would kill to have some of those badboys. If you want to drop a bunch of cash to get these, well good on ya. Good luck with them if you do.

If you guys were planning a nano and absolutely had to choose from all the corals out there, which ones would you choose? Again Im trying to plan from the begining what coral I will stock so I want to make sure I get all the ones I want in there. Let me know what you guys would stock!!! Thanks for your opinions

Mike

I would add them all and just keep an eye out.

As for all the pic threads......I think we've exhusted most of the SPS topics of discussion :) If you can think of a good topic I would be more that willing to participate. I still think pic threads can be very informative. I see someting I like, ask questions, and duplicate it for the same result.

I would definitely bump up to a larger tank. Frankly, I'd go with a 2' x 2' tank, as 1 MH can light that well ... why waste the light that would escape a smaller tank?
Nevermind more water volume just makes the whole thing easier [a skimmer for this tank could handle a little larger IMO, flow the same].

I would think getting good flow, but not direct flow, in that small a tank would be difficult. For slower-flow-liking corals we had good luck with a nano ... but I know I wish for a far larger water volume on my 58 for my Acropora. IMO, smaller tanks [given fluctuations] don't have to, but tend to grow a little slower than larger water volumes. To take very slow corals, put them in a slow-growing environment ... might not be a lot of `payoff' IMO.

Personally, I'd be sure you have luck with SPS in such a small tank, and seeing how growth/color is before spending for some of the most expensive frags `out there'. Maybe it's me, but I don't have any of those [except a pink millie] and beyond the unusual birdsnest ... have found corals that I find just as pretty, maybe more so.
But if your nano just turns Acropora brown ... would be some mighty expensive tan Acropora there.

No definately.... I would definately start with the more hardy cheaper corals (ie. caps, millis, birdsnest) out there and see what they look like and how everything is... I dont think I could afford nor find all my corals all in one lot.

[They have a high price tag for a reason... theyre beautiful! and Id rather spend money on awesome corals than a larger sestem. When you upgrade a tank, you have to upgrade the lights and the circulation and the LR and the chiller and the ammount of livestock, overall I really dont think it is worth it for me at this time to invest that much knowing what corals I want... again Im trying to plan this thing out as best I can.

Invest in system and the corals will come for free. Trust me on that one. I have every coral on your list, and I have spent less than $100 on the all of them combined.

The reason is because I invested in a nice medium sized system. If you have a nice stable system and you have exhibited proven husbandry skills, people will be more than willing to give you frags. SPS keepers are always trying to find people to back up their prized corals. Especially in So Cal.

Let's face it, acros grow quick, and people frag them all the time. Get a nice stable system going and make some friends in the So Cal forum. No time, you will have a nice tank going.
