Progress is very slow nowadays. Just haven't had much time to work on the beast. Earlier today I posted a question about my plumbing. See what you guys think...

Thanks Mary, I call it my DIY hillbilly wet/dry sump. Haven't quite thought out what I will put in the drawers yet. Probably live rock in the bottom one with a polishing pad in front of it. I was thinking a filter fiber in the top drawer and then maybe outfit something to accomodate some bio balls directly under it .

So, what do you guy think about putting a Mag 18 on this? Would it be okay going directly into the T.

I see a good place for de-nitrate and phosban and whatever else you normally run.

I have a tidepool 2 and love the drawers, but wish it had more space in it.

Who made your sump. ( I have the acrylic for a new sump but Jason has been busy.)

Ok, husband said that the T would be fine, it would handle the pressure easily, as long as you let it dry 24 hours before running water through it.

I showed my Sailfin Tang your photos, and he can't wait to go for swim. His laps in my 72 have gotten old. He's wearing a path in the grass.

LOL, he'll probably shed a few ounces swimming laps in this thing...won't be long till he can come over and swim....

I'd go w/ a mag24 if you haven't already purchased one better to have to toggle back if necessary than wish you had went bigger, and the tee is fine but I would put ball valves on each side of the tee instead of under it so you can adjust the flow to each side of the tank where one of the runs is longer than the other you'll have more resistance on the right side, also the valves on the drains might cut back too much on your outflow, if they do just go with larger size valves and reduce them down so the inside diameter is the same as the pipe your using. Great idea/job on the sump w/ the drawers, very crafty. Just my 2 cents.

I've decided to use a DIY media in place of the bio balls. Under the filter cloth that will be in the first chamber, I have made another drip tray under it that accomodates "pot scrubbers". That's right. Like you wash dishes with. They have much more surface area than bio balls, will filter better and are much, much more cheaper. I bought about 60 of them at the general dollar for about $6.

have you decided what you are going to use to cover the sump area, i was thinkin if it were me i would use 1/2" plywood and make 2 doors then mount some regular cabinet doors to those.
so it looks like a lot do doors but really just 2 , with lots of access room. anyways thats going to be one awsome tank

It will have two large doors on the bottom that will open outwards. I want full access to the sump area in case I needed to get in there to work on something. It will look sweet. I hope to get it done by the weekend. As for the top I haven't decided if it will lift up or open outwards. I'll probably go with the open outwards to have full access there as well. It will have a dark walnut stain.

right thats what i was sayinguse two large doors, i was suggesting mounting dummy cabinet doors to your big doors for the illusion of several doors. just a thought
