my super skimmer 65 is being difficult

i can get it to work. and when it does it works very good. however when i clean it, it stops working for days and often up to a week.

i have noticed that its ability to skim is related to the water lever in the sump. the sump is a 10 gallon tank and water evaporates fast. right now i actualy miss my sea clone 100 because it actualy worked better under these conditions.

is there any modifications i could do that will make it easyer to adjust? and why does it stop skimming after i clean it?

Hey, I have a super skimmer 65 and it does not have any problems even after I clean it. Within 10-15 minutes it starts picking up a ton of skimmate.

Perhaps something else is wrong....

heh after i made this post i went up to take a look at the tank. the skimmer is working today lol. it has 3 inches of tan juice in the cup but i siphoned it out because it almost always stops working if i turn it off.

not sure what i did to make it work.

Put some baffles in your sump.

All the tuning in the world wont make it work right if it doesnt have a constant water level.

AMEN! A top off system for the sump would be a huge help too!

AH, this was what i was thinking... how wonderful. more work lol

for now ill just refill water to the "water line" each morning untill i can modify.

Nah, its easy. Get a JBJ A.T.O. about 75.00 and a spare tank. After that, it is plug n play! I have one installed myself. IT was as simple as 1,2,3. Good luck! There are also numerous resources concerning the baffle system for a sump. Just plug in sump baffle to any web browser, and you will be overwhlemed with numerous resources. Good luck!

Glad to hear your super skimmer is working now. Since I got my skimer last week I have got at least 2 cupfulls of skimmate. Now thats pretty darn good. I thought my tank was pretty clean but the skimmer picked up a lot of junk

I find that the skimmer works really well when I put kalk in my tank.

Loving My CSS 220 looks like coffee.... beats my turbofloater :eek2:

Yeah these skimmers do seem to be especially sensetive to changing water levels. You will need to figure out a way to keep it steady, and a baffle system is probably your best bet.

One thing to do that they don't tell you in the instructions: you MUST change the filter floss at the bottom of the "bubble reducer" every so often. Otherwise it will start putting a metric ton of microbubbles into your tank.

ok. took 2 trys and a whole 20$ 16$ for two 10 gallon tanks and
4$ for the 2 sheets of glass.

first try the baffle was to high and i could have over flowed my skimmer in 20 seconds.

2nd try i got it about right and its skimming now. im still playin with the dial to find the "sweet spot"

Something that is easier (though, not as neat) than baffles would be to use a bucket or other container and allow the overflow water to flow into it. If you place the return pump in here, not only will the water level remain stable, but it will also collect various proteins from the overflow water.

im having a problem with the css 65 but mine when its on the whole chamber where the bubles come in fills up with bubbles all the way to the bottom then the bubbles flow into the water outlet which then in turn fills the whole tank with bubbles. when it was woking correctly the bubbles only went up not down...any ideas??
