My take on the idea lighting for zoas

Now that I have 3 different lighting systems 10k MH/ w VHO actinic combo,PC,and VHO. I have used each one to see which ones will color up zoas faster. so far the PC are the fastest (2-3 weeks)at coloring them up and will hold color better but when I put them under MH they take longer to color about 4-5 weeks. The pc is my frag tank hooked up to my display with the MH.The VHO's are on its owe system and seem to not do as well as the other 2 lights.

Has anyone tried this if so what is your thoughts for the best lighting to use for zoas?

I haven't used MH on my zoas, but lots of friends that have and I've seen there tank. IME I have seen the best coloration under VHO's and the best growth under halides. IME, the pc's were a waste of money... But the good thing for everyone is that no matter what they prefer there are lots of bulb/lighting combonations out there :)

now that you that you said it I do have better growth with the mh /vho set up and the vho only is a close 2nd. The vho system has high nutrients and the mh/vho is my sps system with low nutrients but I am getting faster colors under PC only. Not all zoas come in looking as good as they are when you buy them some times it takes weeks before you can tell what color they will be.

under PC lighting 2 1/2-3 weeks ago.

have you tried a 14k, 15k, or 20k metal halide? or any T5's? IME and IMO those are at the top of the list to color zoas up.

i know alot of people like VHO's. but i cant stand them anymore. the super URI actinic and other VHO bulbs have the most un-natural colors and make the zoas look funky. although i do LOVE the VHO uri actinics by themselves as a dawn/dusk affect. but i think i'd take the T5 aqua blues, as they have a true blue color and not a purple or pink color like some VHO bulbs.

my zoos are under a 175 mh with a hamilton 14k and the color is nice no attinic supplemented at the mean time to busy to redo my light

I have tried 2 250w 14 k, 20k and now I use 10 k with 3 uri actinic and 1 aqua sun. It is still way to yellow IMO, but I hope to change my VHO's to T5's in a few weeks, I can say that the 10k shows the most natural color of a coral IMO.

HUGE F@#$%&G DIFFERENCE, ALMOST LIKE TO DIFFERENT SPECIES OF ZOOS. I USE A 150MH DE 14K AND ALL OF MY ZOOS REPRODUCE LIKE RABBITS. ITS ALL THE SAME AND DIFFERENT AS WELL. THAT WHAT MAKES THIS HOBBY FUN/FRUSTRATING.
