my tang has ich and i dont have a QT??

So you're just going to have him in QT for a total of two weeks? Haven't you done your studying yet? Has everyone been wasting their time trying to help you? 4 weeks minimum up to 6 weeks and then if you still see ich another 4 weeks and so on.

no, i certainly have. i will most likely leave him in there for a toal of almost 2 months. i just was getting excited. i see that you have a QT tank, do you keep a small light on your tank or not? i currently don't have a light on it, but wanted to see what other people do.

I have overkill on my QT. I have two 110 watt VHO bulbs just in case I need to put light loving corals in there. I also am overkilling with an Eheim 2026 canister filter and an Aqua C Remora Pro protein skimmer. Good job with at least 2 months. I have had a CBB and a 6 line wrasse in my QT since Feb. 10, 2006 but saw ich up to last mid week so they will be in there up thru March 29 unless I see more ich spots on one or the other or both and then another 4 weeks after that but I don't think I'll see anymore as they have been in steady and stable Hypo at a salinity of 11ppt or SG of 1.009 Keeping my fingers crossed.

oh wow. im glad i asked. alot of people told me to do no light but then i have heard some light and now i have heard ALOT of light!!!

Overkill like I have is not necessary but only if you have high light loving/needing corals. Low light is good to keep some fish from killing themselves from darting around all over the place. It tends to keep them somewhat subdued, dude.

ok, well i must have spoken to soon, because now he has black dots all over him.(large pellet size) the only reason i can see them is that is is lighter than the dots? could those be the scares from the ich? he is still eating like crazy, and i am still doing every other day water changes to keep the ammonia down. i cant post a pic right now because for some reason photobucket wont let me go to my album. any advice?

ok, it let me get in finally. could this be scaring from the ich since it was so bad?

I had a sailfin tang that had the same problem in a small QT. I tried copper and low salinity for ich and these presistent black spots formed. Look around the head area and around the eyes and check the lateral line. In my case it ended up being HLLE. The flesh will begin eat away around the eyes.

he doesnt have HLLE. i put a small light over the QT tank and the spots became a faint white color? his ich is TOTALLY gone, but these large splotches are worrying me. should i treat with something other than copper and hypo?

Don't add any other meds. These spots may be a reaction to the treatment he is receiving now. If you are treating with copper and hypo [sg at 1.009] I would stop using copper at this point. Using both together is not necessary and can be dangerous.

Hypo would be low enough to kill the parasites. As low as you have it they will still live and prosper. A salinity of 11-13ppt. is the point you want to get to to kill the parasites or an SG of 1.009-1.012. Leave it there for at least 4-6 weeks after you have noticed the last of the ich and then if you don't see any more after that period you can start bringing the salinity back up slowly over a couple of weeks time period.
