Well, ive had my tank set up for over 6 months now, its a 24 gallon aqua pod it has live rock, with about a 2 inches of sand and crushed live rock on the bottom. anyways I was curious about the purple algae( i think its algae anyway) that seems to grow in well established reef tanks. I dont have any in my tank so i was hoping some one could tell me about it and how to get it

-edit this should probably be moved to the new to the hobby section-

The algae you are refering to is Coraline Algae it has to be present in a small amount maybe on some live rock you bought etc. and it grows by absorbing calcium. It takes time and some forms grow faster than others.

Get a piece of super saturated rock from someone's established tank and as long as you keep your calc and alk at proper levels, you'll be pink/purple in no time..

Having proper magnesium levels really helps with coralline growth as well. Try to keep your Mg around 1350 ppm.
