My tank build thread - Dual 40s

This weekend I ordered the live rock, 45 lbs of Bali from Phishy, bought sand, and installed baffles in my sump. Stand is coming along well and I'm hoping to have water in it by next weekend! :)

Ive bought a couple of things from Serdar and Renee......(Phishybusiness.com).....

They pack their livestock hell for strong.....Never seen an anemone packed in 20 mils of plastic before...can you say bomb shelter???????

Their livestock is amazingly healthy...I wont hesitate to buy from them again. Glad to hear you got a nice healthy Potters angel. I used to live in Hawaii as a kid and worked for a LFS there....

The entire time I lived there I wouldnt get a potters cause I couldnt get one that was eating....and they come from Hawaii. I always loved the way they looked though. Great fish....

Update!

Got my stand built this week and the sump finished (thanks Chad and John!). I'm working on painting the stand but the color I requested (black) was not what I got (dark purple) so I will be repainting the stand this week. The goal for the upcoming week is to get the tanks plumbed!

Chelsey  Just wanted to say thanks for jinxing me on the paint!! I have never had a problem painting the back of a tank, till now!! I cannot get the paint to set in the corners, I believe it is do to the silicone. I'm going to try laying the tank down on the front glass and hope then the paint does not run off. I have put 5 coats on it and everytime it just runs right off

oops, sorry Lonnie! Are you using spraypaint or the kind you brush on? I've always laid the tank down on the front glass to paint, maybe that's your problem?

Sounds like you've been a very busy girl. Also sound like it will be a great setup. can't wait to see it up and running. That potter is one of the nicest looking fish I've seen in a long time. Good Luck with it all.

Chelsey-
Could you give me the dimensions of your overflow box? I am going to copy off you & put 2 drains in it & want to make sure I have it right.

Thanks!
Andy

Nice Set-up Chelsey, Sorry I was out of town and not there to Supervise Dumb and Dumber....

Atleast they did not break anything!

Thanks for the compliments everybody :)

Andy - overflow box is 6" x 4" x 3"

No biggie Hobbes :) Tanks aren't done yet, still have to do the plumbing, so there are still opportunities for them to screw up

I actually bought another Potters this weekend, so now I have 2. The one from phishy is not eating flake yet (yeah I know, you guys told me so). I was in MS and saw a little potters that ate like a damsel, he even ate flake in the acclimation bucket when I brought him to John's! I figure if one of them makes it I'll be doing great and if both make it I'll stick one in the 40 and the other in the 30 breeder prop tank I just set up :)

are you going to plumb this yourself?

Chelsey, if they both make it you might think about attempting to pair them. I have been reading a lot about pairing dwarf angels, and it can be attempted if one of them is very young. I tried this with two flames, and it seemed to be working out well until the little one died suddenly 3 days after I got her. I don't know about pairing Potter's specifically, but it's been done with flames and coral beauties.

Thanks for being patient Dennis :) Here are your pics:

At the moment it's lit by 4 T-5s, may switch to halides. The tank isn't all the way full yet because I'm using water from established tanks to fill it and I ran out of buckets and car space :) The tank was just set up yesterday so it's still cloudy and stuff...excuse the mess :)

My stand is no longer purple! Today I repainted it. The stand now has a total of 4 coats of paint, 1st is sealer, then purple, then the two coats of black. I decided to get some exercise and carry the stand and sump in from the garage by myself. Here are a few pics of the tanks on the stand. The sump fits through the ends with 1/2" to spare. I can't wait to get these things wet :bounce1:
