my tank crashed last night, corals now for FREE

Duy is a good choice to house your corals until you are ready for them.

We also had a similar experience with an kalk overdose a couple of months back. Nothing but a massive white tank, looked like a blizzard had moved in :(. Lost a couple of fish and corals due to the massive spike in PH and the calc precipitate that clogged the fishes gills. Went to the local PetSmart and bought two of their largest Fluval canister filters and ran them on the main tank and sump. By the next morning we had the tank relatively clean, and had brought the PH back down by letting the CO2 bubble slowly in the sump (probably brought it down way too fast, but I figured the shock would be less than the leaving them in the high PH). Alot more survived than you would have expected, so don't give up hope so easily :)

Oh Tom, where were you when I need help. Do you think I should have just left the corals in the main tank and just slowly filter out the pickling lime media?

If I go to 300g now it will be empty. Do you think I should grow coral frags first in the 90g then move to 300g when they're big enough?

Perry,
You already mentioned to me that your tank was overcrowded and you had no room for any more corals (even though there were several that you really wanted). Taking this opporunity to move to a larger tank might just be your best option. Would you rather have a smaller tank that is too crowded for you to enjoy, and that you are/were worried about the kalk overdose ? Or a larger one that gives you plenty of room to aquascape and plan out and watch your coral garden grow ? I think I would prefer a larger tank to grow into rather than the smaller tank that had already been outgrown :). It is not just about "bigger is better" it is about our growing with each new expereince and learning about the different coral and other livestock that we want to keep, and eventually just flat out running out of room in our current tanks and having to make sacrifices or decisions about keeping this coral or getting rid of that one. If it was already in your plans, and in your budget, to move up to a larger tank, then now seems like a good time.

Taking the corals out probably saved a few that might not have made it through the "storm", When it happened to us I really didn't have that option. So while you might have been able to filter out and "weather" the storm, you likely would have lost a few more of your livestock in the process, so you probably did the right thing :).

As for where I was when you needed help ? In far easy bay :(. If we lived closer you know I would have been right there helping you out, just like everyone else who has posted their support and offerred equiptment and to hold (not take) your corals for you :).

Also, if you are planning to take a break from the hobby and don't want it any more, make sure to post in the flashlight group buy thread that you need to withdraw. If you still want one, we would still be happy to drop it off to you when they arrive. You don't need the "frag bribe" for that :).

heheh Jedi, nah not doubting your ability but I do question capacity (and I'm saying this without knowing your system), because I assume most to have a semi-full system and to have basically a whole tank load of other stuff thrown in, well it can get quite crowded. Unless of course you have a system that's mostly empty :)

Perry--sorry to hear about this but save some of those for me--you can even have them back whenever you decide to reset. I'll come over this evening. -alan

I just figured he was going to see about setting them up in the store he works at until Perry was ready. :)

He already posted on the previous page that Duy (jedininja) would be holding all of his corals until he was ready for them.

Well if that's the case I guess he will have enough room :)

Although a lot of angry customers who wonder why those aren't for sale :D

Okay Tom,

I'll take yours and everyone else advise to go bigger then. I'm leaving next month to take a vacation in Phippines and when I get back here I'll start planning the new tank. but first I'll need to hire somebody to upgrade my carpet to wood floor.

So, if you guys have any suggestion as to where to buy the tank and and cabinet let me know. I'm thinking of kritters for the tank and antony for the cabinet/canopy. What do you guys think.

by the way Jedi no longer work for Neptune Aquatics. I was there 3 weeks ago and their s/w tanks were going down hill since Jedi left.

Well, look in the bright side, now you won't need to find someone to tank sit while you are on vacation (and stress over all of the things they would be doing wrong to your tank :)).

I didn't know Duy had moved on from that store, hopefully it was to greener pastures and better opportunities :)
