My thoughts on upgrading Maxpect Razor

I just upgraded my Maxspect razor 160watts 10000k to 180watts 15000k with 120 degrees lenses.

The best part were definitely the 120 degrees lenses. There's 2 immediate advantages: No more disco ball effect and the fixture now covers my 90x90x50 cms cube with no problem.

I have mixed feelings about the rendition of colors in the tank.

The 10000k has the most stunning blue channel I have ever seen. It's a deep, rich mix of blues.

The 15000k 2nd channel is still blue but not as rich and it has a violet tint to it. It tints the whole room in violet too when the 2nd channel is much stronger than the 1st.

The strong violet look comes when you have something like 10% white and 100% blue.

On the positive side, with the fixture with both channels on 100%, it creates a greater contrast in colors.

With 10000k my rainbow and orange drop BTA's look very close in color. With the 15000k they look very different, because the 15000k witth 100% on both channels manages to make the corals look more fluorescent - something I don't particularly like.

The 10000k gives the tank a more natural look, although with the colors not as differenciated as the 15000k.

The shimmer, aside from the dramatic improvement in the disco ball effect, is very similar on the 10000k and 15000k: epileptic fit inducing.
