HHMM I came to Tucson today to check out the LFS and see what I could see. I timed it so on the way out I could go to the "acroaz" meeting and auction as the other meeting was beyond price road and been alittle out of the way.
I'm known for my honesty around these parts which gets me into trouble more then out of it but I was blessed with thick skin and I'm by no means speaking ill about anyone here.
I've decided after thinking about it on my way home to just make it simply this time I will rate the store with a % and leave it at that when I come down in a couple of months to attend the other meeting then i will re-visit each store.


Oasis Aquarium: 55% liked very clean organized

Southwest:65% liked --nice selections

After speaking to ReefAA about why there were two separate meetings (please keep in mind he spoke ill of no one) I've come to my own conclusion that there were to many chiefs and not enough Indians and that is why the groups have split apart both equal in there own rights and different in others.
I, like BLACKJACK other questioning in this thread wonder why you all can't just suck it the hell up and join up as one if you must have one guy run it one month and then have the other guy run it the next month. hell if you two cannot stand each other that much then while one is running it the other not go. I do not know all the details it's just a shame the meeting are on the same dates and same dam time and not even 10 minutes from each other when we are all here for the same thing.
the meeting I went to today although in a very nice place only had three people show including the guy running it so i didn't come away with anything but maybe next time.

Please speak freely as I would like to know why it rolls the way it rolls down there and why you guys are all fighting.

All in all nice people and nice fish stores I will be back for sure to hit the other meeting.
 
Both stores were still under construction or adding on.
I had an entire thing written out in great detail however it's really none of my business nor are they my stores. If it makes you feel better my fav. Store up here only scores an 80% so they are not as bad off as it may seem.

I'm not fighting with anybody, never have. Some of us would rather just get together and chill, talk, have a beer, eat some food and enjoy the company. Then auction what we have when everybody is ready. We want to go to have a good time, not feel like we are on some sort of schedule or something.

Keep in mind, I've never been to the "other" swap, so I'm not saying what they do is bad in any way.

Primarily the quantity of what is offered and a better selection. This will come in time though as construction ends and more time and funding can be put into the purchase of new and multiple items. My ratings are not low when based off of a high of 80%

So it seems to me that your meeting is set up the same way we do our meetings. Open to whom ever as long as they come and have a good time and have fun. Oh yes , eat drink and be merry of course it works and all do have fun.
 
Hmm maybe I should have made an effort to come to your meeting instead...
what do you call your meeting/club and when are next two planned for ??
 
Thanks for the feedback! this is always welcome and i would appreciate a more detailed list as I always take suggestions via email or Pm. Tucson is small but I would love to get the store on par with Oregon and washington state stores one day which are some of the best.
 
I want to add my 2 cents worth to this ongoing fiasco.

Firstly, I want people to know 2 things, one, I'm an active member of BOTH clubs and secondly, I personally do not like the person who has set up the far more successful club. Having said that, this other person has done a remarkable job with the club. He has set up a wonderful web site and a consistent schedule (last Sunday of the month, same place, same time). He also has a sponsor who consistently donates frags for the auction.

Now, I want to respond to some of the negativity generated towards him. Some have said he charges club dues, not true. They ask people to donate $2 each meeting and it goes to the wait staff of the restaurant as a tip. He has been accused of making money off of the web site from advertising, so what, do you know how many hours he has spent putting together and maintaining that site (I also doubt what he makes is all that much). A site that we in this community have used to all our benefit. I have also heard that he takes frags of the donated frags for himself. How do you frag a single head of kryptonite candy cane anyway or a polyp of blue zoas? He drives 20 miles to pick up the frags from the LFS and bring them home, hosts them overnight, making sure they don’t die and then brings them to the swap each and every month, just to make sure their are frags for the swap (not like the last swap I attended where no one but the host had brought any frags).

This person, again, someone I don't even like personally, has put together a nice web site, a consistent location, a consistent time to meet, and a willingness to help out new people in this hobby.

What more can you ask for!
 
Sorry, I wasn't trying to stir anything up. I'm new to the hobby, don't have any history behind anything going on between people and just thought it curious that there weren't single larger meets rather than multiple smaller meets. Lesson learned.

Ummm maybe I am misunderstanding something, but I think he is saying that IS the meet he attended (he says in the original post he attended the ACROAZ meeting).

Don't get all hurt man philblumenfeld was attacking me not you your questions were like all other newbs questions, normal. He apparently is a vocal person and was upset I was not impressed and thrilled to death with all that I encountered in Tucson. although I did state clearly I went to the acro meeting and was planning on attending the other meeting the next time down he still rambles on like I downed the person running the acro meeting. I downed no one I was impressed with he meeting place and the food was very food just would have preferred a few more people show up then ....four two of which were myself and my Aunt.
philblumenfeld needs to learn to control his rambling and outward attacks cause he'll meet someone one day that will be happy to bite back or scare off more newbs such as Blackjack with out even meaning to.
I did not realize this thread was still going or I would have responded to it days ago
 
I didn't feel attacked or hurt. I felt I inadvertently stirred up conversations dragging up bad feelings that were probably dormant. Oh well.
