Nice!

Yeah, def. True perculas. I think some will think they are occelaris, but they are true percs. Whether or not they are wild caught can't really say.

they're going to look like they do now. they are false percula A. ocellaris, the dorsal fin is too high and they have 11 dorsal spines.

btw who or what lfs told you they are true A. percula?(if you prefer, pm that to me).

These are A. percula. Any occelaris clownfish has eyes like that is a hybrid.

Look at the size of the pupils on this fish: (A. occelaris)

And then look at they eyes on this fish: (A. percula)

These are percula clownfish that, I will give you guys looks like occelaris.

The dorsal finiage also tells you that these are percula. The front most spine stands perpendicular to the clowns body if it is percula, and is more angeled towards the back of the fish on an occelaris.

thanks all
well all I can say is that this indy is teaked ah well they can go into my
other reef tank but that lfs will be hearing from me literally as I will be screaming

marc you also will have a pm coming to you

boy these clowns are driving me nutty :eek1:

looking at the pic reefman I do have to agree with you

I h8t being a newbie at this stuff I definitely have to start studying more on marine fish

Well a lot of LFS don't know the difference either, so I wouldn't beat yourself up over it. Just when I think I do, I'm proved wrong. :D

Ocellaris.

There is no "perc lips" & "occ lips" their lips are the same.

Flash can distort eye color in pictures so thats no way to be 100%

The dorsal is way to high to be percula & the patterns scream Ocelarris.

Being wild caught there is no way they are a hybrid perc/occ either.

reefman13 if you want to try to base your i.d. on pupil's (which i don't agree with) than have another look at the first fish pictured, it's about the same as your false perc. pic.
gsmguy and dave, the false perc pictured on pg. 176 of scott michael's reef aquarium fishes has well defined lips and pupils the same size as sunhair's fish. as does the different pic of A. ocellaris (smaller pupil, 11 dorsal spines/higher fin hight), pg. 254 in of his book a pocket expert guide marine fishes. furthermore the onyx true perc pictured on p. 255 of the same book has a larger pupil, not as high a dorsal fin/10 spines.
i've seen many clearly ora false percs (prob. from the same spawn), at petco stores which debunk your pupil theory. first i've heard of "defined lips" i have however read (and observed), true A. percula's pronounced triangular look when viewed head on, but i'd hardly call that a definitive trait.
and walt thanks for the A. nigripes offer (sheesh 5/11, i hope they breed), good luck.

sunhair, glad to see your back on board. Nice looking Occ's you have there =) Dont forget I've got a frag or 2 for you next time we happen to meet up.

Any other additions since the 'incident' or is this your first?

thanks everyone~

cap these and a small engineer goby are my first since the incident

thanks for the offer i look forward to some frags :D

the moment i think i know the difference, 3 new 'identifiers' become the standard and i don't know any more.

i think i'm just going to call them all percularus.

Their black line around the white isnt thick enough to be percs. and also the fin is too high, and # of spines. JMHO though..... one of them looks more perc like and one definately looks oscelaris just at first glance though.
