BTW, what kind is the small clam on the left. Is it a Deresa? And the one on the right is a Crocea right?

Thanks

I actually prefer to have a Max of a Deresa. :D

Anyways, I think these clams look healthy. What do you guys think?

They react anytime a fish swims over them which is a good sign.

You have an Crocea (larger) and Maxima (smaller).
They both look healthy. Make sure they do not have any parasitic snails. IMO, this is the number 1 killer of clams in thank that have adequate lighting for clams.

The only thing about the max is that you will have to spot feed it until they get up to 4".
IME, this is not true.

My Maxima is doing quite well without being spot fed. I got it about a month ago and it has grown a half an inch so far (it's about 2in now). I feed my tank phyto about once a week.

IMO your maxima ( the smaller clam ) does not look so good i would get him more light he looks to "light" to me... or is he brown? usually maximas look like this(note the "black" flesh) compared to yours

Thanks for the advice guys. I spot fed my max last night with micro invert.

I have heard the different sides on spot feeding whether they are mandatory or not but I will do them once or twice a week just for growth.

I have a question though. Why is it necessary to spot feed them until a certain size such as 4 inches?

The maxima is very small colored brown with blue spots. The maxima in real life looks pretty healty. Maybe the pictures aren't doing justice?

Is there more than one color morph of a maxima anyways?

maximas usually come in 2 colors ( of course there are always rare individual maximas that are different like this one

.. but usually they arebrown with dark brown patter or black with blue patters again thats usually not always look either like one of these 2 pic

your clam appears to be the darker clam with electric blue spots... but your pic does not show your clam as black.. it looks bleached.. i have never seen a pattern of light brown and blue thats why i think your clam needs more light... again JMO

i think the picture was just taken at a bad angle. try to take another picture from above. if i sit on the floor and look at my crocea it looks brown, from a little above it looks dark blue and from directly above it look aquamarine. perspective makes a huge difference when viewing clams.

Well I just got the clam Saturday if that helps you.
Someone complimented me on its good growth and that I was doing something right but I actually just got the clam. I will take some more pictures in a little bit.

Bebo77, btw, thanks for sharing your pics. They are amazing.

You cannot really tell because Semireef's picture is sideway while your's is top down or close to it.
Semireef's clam looks fine to me. It certainly is not bleached.

This clam is not even two inches long yet. Still a baby. Will a max this small have the same color intensity as a bigger maxima clam? I don't think its bleached either. Its definately not as intense as the above posted Maximas, but does not look bleached to me either. I think with time, the color intensity will increase. JMO though.
