I recently spent 6 weeks touuring the South Pacific so I thought I'd share some of my pics and videos.

FYI,THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I HAVE EVER TRIED TO EDIT ANYTHING...SOOOOO....*
the first one is in the Great Barrier Reef and its of me diving and snorkeling. The end of the video shows where I add a red lens to my GoPro. I've been told that you don't need the red lens for shallow waters however I think the difference is significant.*

This one is in Bora Bora. Swimming with black tip sharks and manta rays. I've always heard they weren't very aggressive.. That's not the same thing as won't bite you.. Later that day a woman had her hand almost taken off by one of these sharks

This one is also in Bora Bora

This is Moorea

This is where one of those huge manta rays tried to have me for breakfast. Smile
Thanks. I just wish I had practiced with my gopro before I went. It was a fantastic trip we(my sister and I) went to three continents ending in China

What an awesome trip! You are right the red lens does make a difference. It brings out the colors. Many of the same fish in Bora Bora that I saw when snorkeling in Hawaii. My avatar was taken while snorkeling.

We are going back this year and now I wonder if I should get a go pro? I already have an underwater camera, but the videos look really cool.

I think the GoPro is great for underwater pics and video's. But not so great for regular pictures. I'm not sure if you noticed but in some of those pics I'm wearing theliquid image video goggles. They work ok as well, but not as good as the GoPro. The GoPro really serves its "purpose" when used as a rugged camera or underwater camera it doesn't take pictures very well above ground they all have the fish eye effect. you have to really work with it just to have half decent pics. Cell phones take better pics above ground.

such great footage!! Good job! I've always wanted to go to Bora Bora... it's still on my list. Did you stay on the huts over the water where you can just jump into the ocean??

I have some footage from Hawaii snorkeling in Hanauma Bay I haven't cut together yet ... but this has inspired me! haha

Thanks everyone. I dont usually post videos or pics but this trip was special.
I was inspired to do the trip last year on New Year's Day. I had an Epiphany! I told myself that I was going to do all the things I wanted to do...(one of my tanks had just partially crashed and to be honest I was pretty upset)
So it started off that I was going to go to Australia to see some beautiful coral, diving the Great Barrier Reef...(to make up for my lost coral) (I ended up losing 2 tanks within a few months, the second one was even worse than the first) Well that was the beginning...(it didn't matter that I had already booked a vacation in May to go to Aruba, the Dominican Republic, Carasao and the Turks and Caicos islands...because...remember... I was going to do all the things I wanted to do)...So while searching different things to do in Australia (shark dive high on my bucket list) I came across a cruise that was going to go to several different beautiful islands. And like I said... I was going to do all the things I wanted to do... Soooo, who doesn't want to go to Tahiti, or Bora Bora, Fiji, Moorea, Puerto Valarta or La Caledonia??? Lol. So I added the cruise. And thennnn I figured... if I'm going to be on the other side of the world I should probably do something else that I've always wanted to do while I'm there... Like go to China. Because "of course" I always wanted to climb the "Great Wall". So I added China and yes, we climbed the "great Wall" . My sweet sister stopped me from adding New Zealand..(it deserves it's own trip). Well to shorten my very long story... I started booking my trip that day.. And the craziest part was I booked it for both myself and my sister. Didn't think about whether or not we could both get the time off from work or if she had other plans...I just booked it... When I "asked" her if she wanted to go, she told me "no way"! There was no way she could pull that off. She would never get that much time off from work...sooo, I just held my tongue until the next day, when I told her she didn't really have a choice. I had already booked the cruise and hotels in both Australia and China. In the end we were both able to get the time off from work, we had a fantastic time & I would encourage everyone to do everything they want to do.
We did go to the huts but didn't stay in one. The water was so crystal clear. And for the record I think of Hawaii is more beautiful than Tahiti and Mooera was even more beautiful than Bora Bora. Sadly there is only 1 public beach left in Bora Bora.

Great story. I'm sure your sister was happy she made time for it and went. Lol
PS I used a $10 Walmart waterproof camera last time I went to Hanauma bay in Oahu. Ha. But next time will be GoPro

Of course it's just my opinion. Hawaii is much more developed than Tahiti so they're able to accommodate the things a traveller such as myself can enjoy... like great shopping centers. However, i will say Tahiti has some of the most breathtaking valleys that I've ever seen...To me it seems that Tahiti is kind of stuck in the middle. To developed to have that excluded Island paradise feel (like Mooera and Bora Bora) and to impoverished to have the amenities of a large city(Honolulu) . A lot of stuff is really really run down throughout the island. Even the "nice part" of the city. But don't get me wrong its still incredibly beautiful... I will certainly go back. And in regards to the diving and snorkeling all of those islands have fantastic sites to do both. I don't want to sound like I'm knocking it because I certainly am not. I loved it. There were some beautiful lagoons that I didn't want to come out of. But if I had to choose between those two Islands, Hawaii or Tahiti then my my preference would be Hawaii.
The first part of this video is from some of the lagoons in the Papenoo Valley of Tahiti... Please note...this video may not be "appreciated" by all viewers. So if you don't want to see someone in a swimsuit please don't open it.

I knew only my fellow reefers could appreciate all of those beautiful clams. My friends and coworkers didn't even notice them.

I think the fact that I paid for her trip gave her the extra encouragement to work things out. Smile

Thank you for sharing. I've owned a timeshare in Maui for more then 10 yrs and enjoy every second I'm there. I've always wanted to do the 10 day Princess cruise that departs Tahiti and goes to Bora Bora, Moorea, Riateia and Rangiroa or cruise Australia to Fiji or PNG. Your opinion makes me more grateful for my Hawaii opportunities
