My Wavebox is now a "TsunamiBox"

Frisco - thanks...how's your wavebox doing? Back in the day when I was living in the Bay Area (over 10 yrs ago) Nippon Goldfish in SF was the only place around to get reef stuff. I notice they have alot of good competition now!

esotsm1 - It's really not a slapping sound, but more like an alternating "babbling brook"sound. My tank was dead silent before the Wave box and this doesn't bother me at all. The Tsunami mode is a little more intense but I only do that for maybe a couple hours a day.
 
back on this topic. Luis, any issues going with the slaved stream? Once I get my wavebox "tuned" (I set it up, but didn't really have time to "tune" it yesterday), I was thinking of being "greedy" and going for more wave action.
 
Absolutely do not do it with older Streams, if they have the 7240.26 driver the pump cannot take the abuse, a small oring dampner and driver change are required for a pump to handle this.
 
So far so good. I've been running it like this since I first started this thread.

I was going to try setting the "jumper" to "Inverse" to have the Wavebox and the opposite Stream work alternately. That way you'd have a wave being pushed from both directions instead a big wave coming from the Wavebox side.

Like Roger said, make sure your Streams have the newer driver. It should be 7240.27, which is the same as the Wavebox driver.

I have a pair of 6100s, and was talking to Roger about adding a wavebox to my 280g reef...

Highly recommend the Wavebox, Marc. I couldn't imagine my reef without one now.

Is your tank longer than 6 feet? If so, you might consider getting the extension as well. Or you could always use the "Tsunami" mode.
 
Mine is 72" x 30" x 30", but my viewing panel is the front and the right side and I truly do not want to obscure that side with any pumps.

Currently, both 6100s are on the left panel, but I thought about a wavebox and a Stream, and then perhaps stick the other Stream on the right side in the rockwork at the corner of the overflow box perhaps.

Then again, I don't want my siliconed seams to fail. :eek2: ;)
 
I have been, uh....experimenting for short periods with my pumps in tsunami mode and it's COOL. I think I'll wait and see what roger says on changing the driver vs getting a new pump.
 
One more question. How long did it take you to grow that stuff out from frags? Those corals are huge and they look amazing. I'm going to get a wavebox if I can figure out how to fit it under the lip of the top on my acrylic tank.
 
It's hard to say...some of my older colonies are close to 10 years old. Some grow slow some fast. For example, the green slimer up front is not even 2 years old grown from a 2" frag. The confusa center rear to the right took off since moving to this tank in April. It was maybe 3" then but is big as a Frisbee now! Everything has been pruned/fragged many times to keep everything within their boundaries. Lately I've been kind of letting them go to see what happens...survival of the fittest. I'm kind of worried about where my squamosa clam is going to be in a couple of years. He pretty much dominates the left rear corner. 6 years ago he was 3" now his shell is over a foot long.

I would go ahead and get on a waiting list for a Wavebox, and order a couple pairs of magnets too. You can butt the Wavebox pretty much up to the underside of the lip of your tank, just as long as you don't restrict (air/water tight) the entire top of the box. You can cover most of the top or leave a little gap, this thing just needs to be able to breathe. If your acrylic isn't too thick (over 1") the magnets would work great. With the standard rail mounts, you would probably have to drill some holes in the top of your tank and you wouldn't have the freedom to move the Wavebox at will, like you would with the magnets.

My LFS actually has one in stock. I had it in my hands last week :) Not sure if I'm ready to pull the trigger on this purchase yet. They're not cheap!
 
...but ohhhhh the waves it produces...Priceless!

That's why I was kinda glad that I had to wait 6mos to get one. I had time to save up!

The controller is set to the default "sync" mode. My logic was that when the Wavebox emptied itself the associated stream would also turn on and push even more water to the right in unison with the Wavebox.



What controller are you talking about? The one for the wave box or the multi controller. How do you change the settings on this controller? I am sorry to ask these dumb questions but my wave box does not have the instructions with it.

The Wavebox controller 6091 has 3 internal jumper settings. Synchron, Inverse and Extern. Synchron is the mode you spoke of above, Inverse is used with 2 Wavebox's on opposite ends of the tank and work alternately and Extern works in conjunction with your Multicontroller 7094/7095. You should be able to check out the instructions on Tunze.com
