My last weekend project, nothing went right, I was trying to add another tank 5 gallon to run a filer back and my carbon recto....I just can't get the flow right I had splashing bubbles gurgles....Now for the weekend project Im going to try to move the baffles in my sump to make room to hang a filter bag....I have about 12"x12" area for my return pump Im wordering if I cut it down to 6" 12" I could have 6" to ran a filter bad....this is my setup now
well not knoe but went new

I want to be able to run a filter sock to the left of the skimmer

Just remember Brian that if you downsize the return area you'll be having to top off more often.

I remember this pic of your setup when it was new. Oh how nice our systems look when they're new. :D

make sure you try to leavle plenty of space to work around the skimmer to remove the filter sock, its a little annoying with my setup but my tank is weird anyways. if your just worried about the bubbles you can try making a bubble tower which would leave you with more space in the sump and you wont have to deal with cleaning th sock every few days. checck out melevsreef dot com for ideas

my return is only 6", as long as you have a top off system you should be fine. dont you miss your tank from the beginign in the planning stages brian? those are the best parts of the hobby i think!

Yes I have A 40 gal topoff tank on the other side of the wall......If I could move the baffles over about 6" I should be able to slide the filter sock between the skimmer and tank wall
