Some strombus species will climb the glass ime. Queens and fighters tend to stay in the sand for sure, but it's not to say I've never seen one climb.

Tough call man.

It looks like a big mutant nassarius it's eyes don't look conch like to me. Should I just keep it in the fuge?

Yeah man, I would. When in doubt kick it out. Maybe someone will come by with a positive id of some kind.

I wouldn't take any chances.

Edit:
Watch it's behavior. Afaik, whelks don't have a mouth at the end of the proboscis where conchs use it to eat. If you see it eating around with its trunk, then it's def a conch.

Fwiw, I believe nass snails are whelks. Aren't they?

Not sure if you've read this or not, but it might help you.

I did read that and it seems like this guy has a little of both, this snail doesn't eat algae he like meaty stuff

If it were only half an inch, I'd say 'dove snail', which are some of my favorites. But giant size is potentially the sort of whelk that is not snail-friendly.

Alright I'll keep him in the sump if he starts wiping my pods out I'll chuck him in the puffer tank
