So I go to my LFS and buy a sponge for my tank. It is on a rock and I set it in my tank until I can decide where to place it permanently. This morning I go to move it and it is stuck to the rock next to it. I think to myself, this is curious. Well, the rock the sponge is attached to is some sort of bivalve and attached itself to the rock I set it next to! I carefully remove to with a razor blade. But when I originally lifted the two pieces while attached, something fell out the bottom.
I am wondering if it is the foot the LFS ripped off when taking it out of his tank.
What is the hole in the shell? Is that where the foot usually comes out? Or is it a badly misshapen shell?
Any opinions on this situation would be appreciated.
