Mystery Coral

Hi everyone!

Yesterday I bought a new coral, and is one of my first LPS corals ever (except for the giant frogspawn). Anyways, it was sold to me as a donut coral, but after further research, I don't think it is a donut coral.

Also, it seems to be struggling in my tank, so I moved it to a lower flow/ lower light place in the sand to see if anything turns up.

Can anyone ID this for me and help me help it?

And the setup. It's just a stock biocube with a koralia nano and aquaclear powerhead. I like to keep it simple and low tech. The water parameters are also great. I actually have a bit too much calcium, but that's probably why the frogspawn has expanded about an inch in the past 2 days.

It looks to be bleaching around the edges. It used to be red, but now it's turning a little bit of a pink colour.

I'm also looking for an ID on these corals (if they are). They just came as hitchhikers on the LR, but haven't stopped growing.

In the first pic, thats a cynarina without a doubt......not necessarily a donut coral, but a meat coral.......I have a related scolymia (donut coral) in my sand......and I have what I would consider low light in my aquarium.....but I target feed him almost every other day. ......HTH! : )

You got the right coral, its just withdrawn in that pic.
As for the other pics, sorry they are too blurry to be useful.

your last picture looks like algae. and how you obtained it and how it has grown supports this thought.

better pictures would have yielded better identifications.

Cynarina have transluscent flesh so as it expands it will look more pink than red.

Sorry about how fuzzy the pics were. When you buy one of the first ever digital cameras coming out, you don't get the best quality pictures.

The coral does look better today. I decreased the flow by turning off another powerhead. Just by doing that, it started to look better.

It was sold to me as a red donut coral, and it looked very red under the lighting in the store, but I think they were T5's.

I'll fire up the old camera again (literally) and hope to get better pictures. I'll also try to clean off the glass with a toothbrush, as that may help.

And I accidentally posted this in the regular LPS forum. I didn't see the identification forum until after I posted the thread. Sorry 'bout that.

Ok, looking better.

The coral's mouth was gaping when I checked last night, and now it is closed and regaining a bit of colour. It also expanded quite a bit, but is still not fully expanded. I'll give it a bit more time, then I'll start to spot feed it plankton.

Any other tips?
