Helping out a buddy, can not figure out what to treat with, or how long to go fallow for. Simply put, no clue what it could have been.
He has a 180 sps tank, tank has been running almost two years. A year ago, he added some fish from an importer, and within a month, fish started dropping one by one. From the first to last death, in a span of a week.
He went fallow for four months, and acquired a few fish, doing tank transfer method, with prazi. Powder blue, Aussie tusk, sohal tang, some wrasses and emperor angel and 4 ocelaris
His wife, ordered him about 6 fish off live aquaria, small sailfin tang, goby, golden romboid and some kind of blenny.
He did not quarantine these, for some reason I can't figure out. Within two days, all new fish were dead. No problem, shipping is stressful, was refunded, stick with what he has. A week later, powder blue is covered in salt grains, including on the eye lense. Aussie tusk is swimming erratically, hiding alot, and labored breathing. He is dead within 5 days of showing off behavior. Two days later, powder blue eating fine,.Pellets and seaweed, dead by nightfall. Two more days, a eating naso dead, emperorgets ragged looking tail, shortly after dead.
Ocelaris clowns, which had been in his care in his office tank at least 3 years, look to be peeling or shedding skin (thread like appearance), at that night. Next morning two are dead, hours later , the others are dead.
I am confused fuses on the advise to give him. 3 wrasses are still alive, melanarus, chalkboard and rose fairy wrasse. Seem fine.
Even tho there was a fallow 3 months period ( 125 days), these symptoms seem awfully close like a year ago.
Almost like whatever killed a year ago, survived the 4 month period. During that time, the corals were maintained at 78 degrees, no dormant time for ich.
Any idea what kills like that, spared some wrasses, dropped 4 clowns in one day, thread like stuff hanging off them before death?
I have never had ich kill this quickly, or rot the tail of an angel.
Any suggestions as to who what where and why, and of course, how long to go fallow.
I saw me saltwater tank break his reef tank down and start over when he had "velvet"
Thanks in advance
