I was wondering if anyone could identify the circled entities in the picture. They are showing up in quite a few spots in my tank. I assume they are harmless but if that's wrong please let me know.
Probably in the mojano anemone family. Closer pictures without all the blue light would make it easier to give you a positive ID. Assuming I am correct, they are invasive pests. My preferred method to get rid of them is a syringe filled with boiling water to cook them where they sit. Figure about 20ml each and your problem will be solved.
They look kind of like pest anemones. Can you take another shot without the blues on. If they are indeed pests and you can remove the rock with ease just take a cigarette lighter to them. This only takes a few seconds to do. The rock will get a little scorched, but this usually rubs right off with a little water.
They will most definitely become a nuisance. It's best to rid of them now because they have the potential to get plague proportion very quickly. Aiptasia X has worked for me but there are a number of treatment options available.
Another option as opposed to chemicals or predetion is to rough them up first and then smother them with some epoxy. Use a stick, a stiff brush or even your finger so they close up and retreat. After that just put some bubble gum over them. (epoxy) Hopefully you'll seal them in. GL.
Overfeeding can contribute. They don't always go nuts, especially if there is sufficient competition for food and great water conditions. But generally, they're a complete headache.
Be diligent and take them out as soon as you see them. Lots of ways I like Aiptasia-X. Only had 3-4 and it worked on them in a couple treatments. Try not to smash them they spread from fragments.
