Mystery Tang

Acanthurus thompsoni if it's got a black spot above/below the caudal.

If not, then it's definitely an Acanthurus mata

I might be wrong but I don't think Acanthurus thompsoni has the yellow eye strip that we see on the tang in the video. Is your tang always that dark?

By the way, I love that orange shoulder!

try photobucket, facebook is garbage

lol...sorry...but you can't possibly recommend photobucket for a video in the same breath as calling some place else garbage. Photobucket is the WORST for videos. And I'm a long term "pro" photobucket account holder. :o

I had never seen a Mata with a white tail before, but it obviously appears now they can. Definitely A. mata

Okay, okay some of you don't like facebook, some hate photobucket, one guy accurately noticed that he looked too dark on both sites so I took the time this AM to upload it to Vimeo which is undoubtedly the best of such sites.

http://vimeo.com/12455978

If you full screen it and freeze frame as close to the beginning as you can you'll get a good view of his facial markings.

BTW that Orange Shoulder someone complimented has grown to 8" so I guess I should update my signature on this site... ALL the sizes are wrong and many fish died in the October boil off (the 1 HP chiller failed and the stuck thermostat pushed the tank temperature to 96 degrees...i lost a gorgeous 54 headed frogspawn)/

Interesting coloration for sure....The Maui Aquarium has ton of A. Mata, the coloring is far lighter, not even close to your's Bill, but the shape and mark around the eye certainly seems like Mata.

I googled A. Mata and went through all the images and my only pause was not finding any images showing an off color surgeon's barb. Then I came across two which displayed the same bright yellow as does mine so now I'm convinced...A mata. If you were to add yellow barbs to this image which I found online, this is my fish.

Thank you all for your help.

Go Strasburg!!!

the facial markings look like A. Mata but the white tail is pronounced and the skin is very dark. im leaning towards forddna at it being a hybrid maybe.
