a few questions. I have a BB reef tank and was wondering If the mystery wrasse need sand. also I have a sixlined wrasse and was wondering how they would co-exist.

The lack of sand will not be a problem for the mystery. However I would not consider adding a mystery if the tank (less than 200gallons) already houses a well-established six-line wrasse. Both can be highly territorial.

well it sounds like the sixline might be going bye bye because I have an insane deal on a mystery wrasse.

I guess its not insane , the prices of the Mystery are going down like prices of most fish from Marshall.
I have them in BB no problems.

Hey Vili!

Any insight on the fact that Marshall fish are being collected with cyanide? I have been seeing a lot of mystery wrasses coming in in which after a few days to a week get opaque eyes, stop eating and die.

Thats an interesting observation on the cyanide. I would expect that a Mystery Wrasse would not be easy to catch with cyanide unless you could corner them in a hole. On the other hand, it would seem that they would be difficult to catch anyway as they are pretty quick, yet we are seeing a bunch of them showing up lately.

Something must be going wrong with those you are seeing as the Mystery Wrasses have, in general, been about as hardy a fish as you can get.

Are you seeing this problem with a particular supplier or multiple suppliers?

I have a 75gal and had a sixline wrasse for probably 6 months or so and then bought a mystery wrasse that was at least double the size of the sixline. After the first few hours the sixline chased the mystery wrasse and kept it out of my live rock structure but then after maybe two days they were fine with each other and had no problems. Now about 2 months went by and I went on vacation and came back and havent seen the sixline wrasse anywhere in or out of the tank and its been about two months since I lost the sixline but the mystery is still doing great.

I am sure I can get someone to take a good sixline. It is funny how they wait till your gone. It is like they know.

The 6 line probably jumped.

Hi Ali , how are u? Im not sure about the Marshall fish , but can ask around.
One Hong Kong shop brings them in big qttys, last shipment 80 Multicolors, MANY Flames , Rhomboids, Helfrichs and Mysterys.

I can only say that the Mystery do not look as good as the Vanuatu ones (Vanuatu was acused themselves for using cyanide once), some are more skinny and I saw some in bad condition.
Im not sure if its cause now you see them in mass qttys(40-50 min.qtty each shipment) .

I had a hard time passing on a multicolor this weekend, bought my mystery wrasse and took apart my whole tank catching to sixline. also bought a helfrichi firefish for my nano. for the two fish $170 for both.
