Nice James. PLEASE lemme know how the Garibaldi does. I saw one at the LFS and they talked me out of it - said they are nasty light meanies and grow really fast. Please LMK if they're wrong.

Fliger,
sorry to rain on your parade, (and no disrespect towards naka), but Garibaldi's are a temperate water fish, preferring colder water than the reefs most of us keep. Their natural habitat is the kelp forest off California's coast.

They get to be about 12-13 inches in length and are absolute b@st@rds to everything else that they arent mating with. The pretty juvenile colors fade to a solid orange when they reach adulthood.

The juvi's are gorgeous though!

Nick

Yes I know, I've dove with them for about 17 years. :) The LFS did warn me of the size and aggression so I'm curious to see how it does for James.

Nick, when naka saw this fish, he told me about the size they grow too. He was planning to exchange it when that time comes. As for temperate, it would be strange to see a damsel not live through this. Most damsels are pretty hardy.

Awesome tank Naka! Does your T5's dim also?
Thanks Nuuze, the ACLS only dims the MH, if you're looking for T5 dim, then Giesemann is what your looking for.

so far so good David. I think it's too early too see any aggresive behavior towards my other inhabitants. Like Edward said, I'm planning to take him out as soon as I see any misbehavior.

Thanks,

James

Hey guys,
I was pretty sure you had some sort of back up plan for this fish....just thought I'd throw it out there just in case. I thought it would be really out of character for hobbyists of your (collective) caliber, just buying the pretty fish w/o any research....

:D

Nick

Thanks James. Looks like the Giesemann REFLEXX sunrise only dims T5's and the setup you have dims halides. Too bad no one makes one that dims both, that would be awesome to have dimming T5's for dusk to dawn and the halides to dim for clouds etc...

I have been following this thread for quite some time... Naka - Incredible build. I plan on copying your tank except adding 6" to tank height. I have 1 question for you. What is your livestock list for fish up to? How many and what types of fish are you up to? Are you finished adding? I'd appreciate any info.
Thanks-CJ

What did you do to secure the lighting to the roof? I plan to screw in some anchors with a eye at the end and hand some chains.

Naka/James,

So I've tried to contact the person from the company who built your tank, but no reply. Any thoughts or suggestions for contacting them? I guess I could call... I love your tank! With some slight changes and a bit less volume (I want a 120) that's the tank I want to upgrade to!

I secured mine with simple ring hooks into the joists above the ceiling tiles. The Sfiligoi lights come with aircraft cable, connectors for the hooks & the light and the round caps you see at the ceiling level to hide the join to the roof. It's a really easy kit to use too. You sit the light on the tank, or on some 2x4s, run the wire through the connector at celing hook and drop it down to the fixture. It slides through the connector on the light and you can push the pin on the connector to raise the light and it will stay at that position. So you move around the light raising each wire until it's at the desired height. I ran my wires through a pinhole in the ceiling tile & replaced the tile. Very easy to use and easy to adjust the height at a later date (like when you're putting big pieces of rock into your tank). I've had these lights running for a week now & love them. btw, James' tank looks awesome!

Thanks everyone for your kind words. Garibaldi damesel is out now b/c he started to pick at my clam. I took him back to LFS.

Thanks Dave, I couldn't have explained it any better. I've been following your tank also. Edward brought it up to my attention. I love you setup as well. Super clean!

James

How do your tangs get along? I have a yellow and a purple now and would love to add a tomini but not sure how they will react to the new tang! What order did you add the tangs? Beautiful tank BTW!

Thanks hulley, I've add the tangs in following order. Tomini... Yellow... then purple tang. They all get along fine right now.

James

I have a sailfin, a powder brown and a yellow eye kole and they all get along really well. However, my kole will not leave my snowflake blenny alone. Whenever the kole sees the snowflake, he immediately goes after it and chases it into the rock. No other agression toward any other fish, just that blenny.

They have somewhat similar coloration but such different body shapes that I never would have thought there would be any problem between them. Also, an LFS owner is having the exact same issue in one of her tanks at home!

Hey Naka - are you constantly having to scrape calcium deposits off the glass at the waterline? I do it and it seems to be back in one day...
