I wanted to see when I had red bugs in my personal tank if they would actually kill the coral over time... they did. Call me jaded or heartless but if you won't let me easily catch you, you're going in an interceptor bath for the sake of my corals.

good eye people. I'm treating my entire tank w/ interceptor right now. I don't have any shrimp or crabs in my tank.

Good that there are no shrimp or crabs, but keep in mind that your pods are now toast. I can't remember if you have a fuge or not but if so, did you take it 'off line?' If not then you'll have to replenish your pod population.

Just wanted to say that your tank is an absolute inspiration the colors, corals and growth are amazing I only just remembered how beatiful reef tanks can be and I cannot wait to start my upgrade. I am sure anyone who sees the pictures will be absolutely stunned like I was thanks for sharing :D

Not necessarily...
I had to do 2 interceptor treatments on my 58 gallon. Pod population took a hit, but bounced back. Not all pods will be affected by interceptor....some will survive by hiding in the rock work.

IF that is true wont some Red bugs have a chance to survive if they are deep within a colony???

When I did a red bug treatment on my old tank, I presumed that all pods would die from the Interceptor, so I set up a temporary tank that contained some LR from the fuge and all of the emerald crabs and shrimp I could rescue from the main tank. At the end of the treatment period the crabs and shrimp were returned to the tank, and the LR (with its resident pod population) went back into the fuge. After a few weeks the tank was again teeming with pods.

those of you that have treated with interceptor, what kind of change in your SPS did you see afterwards? Mine look pretty good already in spite of having red bugs. I have a couple of browned out corals, though....

(sorry about the highjack)

I had a fat mandarin fish before I treated my 60g for red bugs... Unfortunatley, he did not take to frozen/dried foods or even live long enough to see the pod population bounce back. However, none of my shrimp or crabs died and my corals looked better than ever. My 112g cube has no pod dependent fish in it or even shrimp just in case I need to add interceptor :).

You will see better polyp extension because the corals aren't being chewed upon any longer.
