hey i have a 75g tank and temperatures vary alot. I mean 4 degrees a day sometimes. They go up to 84-85 sometimes even.

So im looking to stock my tank with a couple hardy fish. Any come to mind?

I was thinking along the lines of a triggerfish, but any hardy fish would be cool.

My 135 is usually 84-85 all summer long. 82 if I leave half of the tops off and the ceiling fan on. You can see from my sig the fish in there.

I ran into the same issue while cycling my 125g tank. It is next to an exterior wall, and last August it didn't get below 83, and that was with no lights on.

I got a small (1/10 HP) chiller. Now the tank doesn't get above 77 (using T5 lighting).

I think any fish, even the hardiest, can be stressed to the point of illness or death by drastic temperature fluctuations. I'd get a chiller to maintain relatively stable temps. The hardiest species will be those found in tide pool areas, where temperature and salinity can show extreme natural fluctuations.

I think most triggerfish won't do well in a 75. You could try one of the smaller and not totally active ones, like an undulated (should be the only fish in the tank) or maybe a picasso. I'd still try and stabilize the temps, no matter what you get.

I wouldn't say 4 degrees a day is anything to fret about. Even temperatures that high, if those are summer temps, aren't too bad. Temperature fluctuations are more harmful to fish that have been kept and are used to a constant temperature, but if they're adapted to it, as they are in the wild where most of them came from anyway, they would be fine with as little as 4 degrees.

I don't think this really limits your fish selection. Now, if those are not summer temperatures and it will get higher than that (86+), I suggest getting a chiller, stop using so much light, or moving the lights further from the water.

looking to get mainly medium sized triggers. 3-4 inches.

Hope its fine. My temp has gone upto 85.7 one time also so im hoping these fish will be fine with that.
