Naming Fish

Who here names their fish? I know some have pretty creative names! I haven't named a fish since I was young and had a pleco named spot. If they don't have names, I don't feel as bad when they die! :worried:
Lets here some creative fish names!

About half of mine get names, just depending on whether somebody feels like thinking one up. As for feeling "less guilty when they die" ... tis more a matter of doing everything we can to make sure they DON'T die. ;)

Jack the scopas tang
Bongo the lawnmower blenny
Toro the bicolor anthias
Heisenberg and Szilard the mimic filefish
Adam & Steve the skunk clownfish

When a fish dies, I replace it with the same fish and give it the same name. It's like nothing ever happened... ...I swear ;)

Barnacle Blenny #5923 Agrees.. Don't mind the number it's um...totally irrelevant to the statement I made above.. .I swear.

I name mine, because I only have a few and they all have such unique personalities. My pair of clowns are Saddle (female) and Cowboy (male) because the wide middle stripe just reminded me of a saddle, and also the way they swim and bob up and down so clumsy it looks like a cowboy trying to ride a wild horse/ bull. The pair of banggaii cardinals are Lucky (female) and Lotto (male) because the black/ white reminds me of dice, which reminds me of the lottery/ gambling. Lastly, the sixline is named Deportes which means "sports" in Spanish because he is so active and his main colors (red/orange, green, and blue) are the colors of my favorite sports teams. The new pygmy angel does not have a name yet... It takes me a while to come up with names since I don't like naming them people names...

I'm admittedly superstitious about it. A fish named within 2 weeks of purchase will die asap Every Single Time. You are free to name it after 2 weeks, but I've usually forgotten all about it by then, so they stay nameless anyhow.

My wife names them so she can remember what kind of fish they are. Kinda funny lol

Yes! It is bad fish-juju to name them within two weeks!

It was explained to me by a fish store employee in San Diego and I started in the hobby thinking it was BS, but unfortunately it seems to happen every time. But on a less superstitious note, it is better not to name them for the first two weeks because if something is going to happen to them it is most likely during this time. Better not to get attached until they get past when they are most vulnerable.

The tang in my avatar pic is Jasper, and I have yet to name my leopard wrasse. In the past I have had a Valentini named Duckie, leaf scorpion named Frisbee, and shortfin lion named Beowulf =).

All kidding aside the only fish I've ever given names to are my anglers, and they always got "mobster" names.
