Nano 3152 Sensor Issue

Had my ATO for about 4 months now and all of a sudden the sensor won't turn on the pump. I have cleaned it and unplugged everything and re-installed and still does not work. It only pumps when I unplug the unit and plug it back on. Is my sensor shot?

Two possibilities:

1) This is the normal safety timer function, out of the box it is set for tanks under 25 gallons. When the float drops and the pump starts a count down starts of 1.8 minutes, if the float rises within the time limit it is reset for the next run, otherwise it times out and is only reset by cycling the power. Over 25 gallons the timer has to be changed to 3 minutes. The manual explains this safety feature on pages 21-29. It may have worked for sometime because of lower evaporation but as the weather changes it is coming up short or water was removed and it was never able to catch up.

2) The pump is bad, if it times out in generally under 30 seconds, the pump is drawing too much power and causing a shut down.

I will double check but I think I already did set it up for 3 minutes.

How can the pump be bad if it's pumps when I cycle the power? If it is bad, does the items have manufacturers warranty?

Thanks.

Yes, it has a two year warranty. If the pump draws more power than it should, the controller kills the power to the pump, this will usually happen in 2-30 seconds depending on how excessive the current draw is.

How can I verify it's the pump or the sensor? I guess I have to contact tunze to see if it's covered under warranty. Thanks

This is Roger with Tunze, you have contacted us.

I can be almost positive it is not the float, the floats generally last a few years at least. If the cause is not the safety timer timing out, it is a bad pump and you would just need to email me your receipt- Tunze at sbcglobal dot net
