Nano 6045

I have read that lots of people have had problems with Nanostream mounting brackets, but the design is perfect for what I want, eliminating a couple of dead spots in a 170-gal display. I really like my 6100's and customer service has always been great, so I am thinking about buying a couple of 6045's even though they seem to have problems. I figured Tunze USA will do the right thing.

Do 6045's shipping now from a places like Marine Depot still have a problem? Do replacement parts solve the problem or are they just more of the same?

The replacement parts are of the new design if the ones that come with the pumps are the old and do break. Though the failure rate is high not all of them do break.

By now most of the older pumps are out of the supply line but your best bet is smaller vendors that buy less and turn there stock quickly. If they got them after mid October they should have the new clamps. The clamp though would be the only issue and it is not a big deal to get them replaced.

Roger here is a question, I am in Canada and trying to choose between a 6045 nanostream vs. a Hydor Koralia for my 120 gallon tank.

I have read that there were issues first with the impellers and then with the mounting brackets on the nanostreams and I understand you corrected these issues. However I am wondering how to identify from the box when the nanostream was made. I figured up here in Canada the supply chain my take longer and I don't want to purchase a model that has the old design.

I will be buying over the phone as I live in the middle of nowhere, if I can ask the vendor to check either a serial number or some other ID on the box to determine if the nanostream is a "new" variety that would be helpful.

Overall as my previous Tunze products (osmolator, Reefpak) have been excellent I would rather go with the Tunze over the cheaper competitor as long as I can be assured of getting the new batch of nanostreams.

Roger- Received a 6045 as a gift. It was bought from Marine Depot and I guess, as you suggested may happen, they still have the old ones on the shelf. Sure enough, one of the mounting tabs broke off as soon as I placed it in the aquarium. I epoxied the bracket to the magnet, so that won't happen again. As long as one of the fingers of the U-shaped part does not break, all is well. I have a hunch that the fingers may break when a person pulls the pump directly out from between their tips as opposed to pushing it out sideways. The mounting tabs were clearly not up to the task, but it seems like the gussets at the base of the fingers should provide enough strength as long as they are not bent back farther than they need to be. Otherwise, it was exactly what the doctor ordered.

The new brackets are made of a new plastic which is more flexible than the original Lexan bracket. On the back of the mounting tabs are little tear drop shaped reinforcements. The old ones were flat. Short of opening the box or knowing if they came in from germany after the last week of September there would be no way to know.
