Nano Calcium Reactor

I got my hands on Aquarium System Design's first nano reactor. I contacted Scott

As you can see the reactor looks wonderful and is powered by the small Eheim pump!! A quality product. It also has a build in probe holder, but I have my probe in the tank keeping a careful eye on the pH of the tank. I am taking sample tests of the effluent (sp?) coming out of the reactor.

The reactor includes a built in buble counter and check valve.

As you can see the reactor is small and compact! It holds around 2-3 lbs or media and should be able to work on a tank up to 70 gallons.

Wonderful logo and it looks great on the reactor!!

It should be fine on a 72 gallon, you will just go through media a little quicker as it only holds around 3 pounds.

Why would one need this for a nano?

Because I HATE dosing everyday.

And I think a reactor leads to a healthier tank. When I would be gone for a week it took me a month to get my tank back to where it was before I left. It was a constant fight and I would never win.

Looks good! Correct me if I'm wrong, but a C02 Tank and injection system will also be necessary right?

How much co2 would one need to run this reactor? Where can you get co2 tanks filled?

I dont think it takes too much. I have a bulble every couple seconds and I am using a 2.5 pound tank. Hopefully it will last 6-8 months. I get mine filled at a welding shop and it is around $8 per fill.

Scott is looking into paintball CO2 tanks for this reactor to save money. I am also getting the reactor to keep from dosing. During the school year I am very busy and anything that can save me time is worth it. Plus also, I love the stable parameters!

I'd consider getting one but reactors are the only major thing I still don't understand. I know they supply your tank with calcium, duh, but how it works...??? I've been looking for a diagram and can't find one anywhere. What is the CO2 for?
