is the top of the nano filter removable? and can the filter still function if left off. the plan is to install a stealth heater within it if possible. how sensitive is the water level for correct function? and will the 6025 magnet holder adapt to this filter?

By nano filter im guessing your talking about the Nano Cleaner/ Surface skimmer (3165). There fine if the lid is taken off, it can still function fine without the lid.

The water level needs to be high enough so it is flowing through into the filter chamber, if not it will suck air. As long as you keep it around the marked level (approx 210mm, i think) where water is still overflowing into the chamber it will be fine.
