Nano Fission in 12G Aquapod

So, yesterday I bought a nano fission for my 12 Gallon aquapod....

Looked at it for about 2 seconds and realized it would not fit in the back chamber anywhere without a mod.

Has anyone ever done a mod on one of these and if so do you have pictures or some direction for me?

That is what the Sapphire Skimmer is designed to do, READ the information and you will see for yourself. Mine works great with the hood down on the Nano 24g.

And on the 12? I see they have one that works for the JBJ nano cube, but the design in the back of the AP12 is different.

I talked to them about the ap12, they are planning on making one but if you're in a hurry you can buy the one for the jbj12 and add a little block to raise it up since the back chambers of aquapod are about an 1 1/2" to 2" taller than jbj. Agree though through the fissin away, piece of crap.

ok, why do I need a skimmer? I am new with a 12g ap and want to eventually have corals. like in the next week. Why the skimmer? All of my tests are good.

Proteins build up. Kill things. It is basically taking most of the fish poop by-products out of the water.

Knowing I did not pay so much for this fission it would be nice to see the skimate that one of the 12G JBJ's is putting out. makes the decision to pay 4 times the amount a little easier.

so its mainly a problem if you have too many fish? If I keep my fish limit down to 1 will I be able to sustain a safe eco assuming I do everything else right?

as long as you keep up with the water changes you will not need a skimmer

That thing only sticks 3.5" out of the water (or 3.8 don't know) and goes in about 6-7" in the water.... It works great, I have one...

My AP12 runs better without a skimmer- much faster growth for some reason. I do a 3 gallon change once a week. Wife timed it last night and it was 15 minutes including getting the water ready. I spent more than 15 minutes a week dealing with all of the skimmers I had on there.

That my fried has nothing to do with the skimmer. Guarantee that if you keep up those same water changes with the skimmer it will be the same growth. Water changes replenish all the needed trace elements lost in the tank. Skimmers are for a tank with wastes. For example if you are feeding your corals supplements i.e. reef chili or Microvert, all that is waste that will rot and raise nitrate lvls. It's that which skimming removes making the water "healthier" as it were for inhabitants, fish and inverts alike.

i dont think a skimmer is needed in a nano either aslong as you do water changes. before i had a skimmer i used chemi-pure and did 2g weekly water changes and nitrates were below 5. then i got a saphire aquatics skimmer and it made really no differance in my tank but tons of micro bubbles. the micro bubbles have now got on my last nerve so i removed the skimmer today. the production rate to the micro bubbles created wasent very good plus without the skimmer my tank never had any bad algaes or high nitrates etc. im now running chemi-pure again along with purigen and floss ontop and ill continue to do my weekly water changes. i also have my own 6 stage ro/di unit so i know the water im using is good.
