nano issues

Roger,

Has the Nano shaft issue been resolved with the new batch of pumps recently manufactured and on there way here? Or is it still a work in progress?

Thanks,
Bill

To the best of my knowledge the shaft issue should be resolved on all pumps made from February 12 forward. The hole is now .5mm smaller and much greater force is used to press it in. Prior to that I would say the majority of the pumps were fine but due to deviations in manufacturing any that had a slightly larger hole than spec would have issues with the shaft coming loose. What had been done to resolve this from January 8- February 12 was hand fitting and inspection to eliminate pumps with loose fit. But now the mold is changed. The drive units were also done this way until last week. A new production run of drive units with a more precise fit to eliminate noise, came in last Monday.

How can we find the manufacture date? i hav 3 6025's now, the ealiest bought in early december, to 3 on the way soon from marinedpot.

On the first runs no manufacturing date was stamped on the pump, that has just now been added. So far from what I have seen in returns even the very first pumps 90+% seem to be working fine, there wasn't so much a defect on the first ones but an issue with tolerances and by making the fit tighter the range of tolerance is still within specs for the shaft to not come loose.

Roger,

I got to tell you this is my first experience with a Tunze product and I am not happy at all. Unfortunately for Tunze, the 6025 is an "entry level" PH and so many people buying it will be new customers, and that is a bad impression. I have emailed Marine Depot to see what remedy they have, but their web site explicitly states that they do not accept returns on items that have been used.

If I do end up getting a replacement unit from you or Marine Depot, I do have one question about installation. Can the dry side magnet be installed in the water? I have a sump style tank with baffles on the ends and it would be nice to install the pump on one of the baffles. Is the dry side SW safe?

There is no dry side, both halves are identical so, yes, both are water proof.

The nano Streams are a new product, as with most new products there are unforeseen problems that occur in early production. We have worked hard to solve these problems and the next batch should be free of these issues. In early pumps the shafts came free of the hole they are pressed into in some cases as the fit was too loose. There is a "thrust washer" under the drive unit, we call it a disk. Your prop was miscut, for 60Hz the 50Hz prop is cut on a lathe, it likely was that way out of the box and you need a new one, I have seen a few of the first pumps with this problem.

Uh, about the "dry" side, there is a magnet that is typically installed outside the tank and just to clarify, it is OK to have this inside the tank?

Why didn't Tunze pull all these pumps from MD when they realized there was a problem? I just got an email from MD saying they can't help me and that I should call you.

Oops, I see you already PM'd me...thanks!

Both halves are identical, you can put the clip on either side, put either side in the water or both, neither is designated wet or dry.

Because not all the pumps are bad, the majority of the pumps see to be OK, I expect about 10% will be returned which is a lot but certainly far less than many major consumer electronics. There is no reason for a recall.
