Dont understand the question...are you looking for a nano protein skimmer, a nano surface skimmer, a whole nano tank, or a nano hood with moon lights??? Restate question and I can answer on any/all of those.

Check out Aquarium Arts, they have all the above. Give them a call, last time I was in they were on sale (well....that was like a week ago.)

I have a Fission protein skimmer for my 12g nano (bought both at Aquarium Arts). They told me there that the skimmer would work fine, but it doesn't work well at all. You can have mine if you want (the skimmer, not the tank)! :) I've also read lots of negative comments from others about the Fission. Don't waste your money on it like I did. Let me know what you figure out as I'm still trying to figure out how to handle this important need in my nano.

AquaC is coming out with a shorter version of the Remora, to fit on nano tanks. Remoras are pretty good skimmers and aren't hard to get them to produce foam.

As far as the fission skimmers, just about everything that I hear about them is that they are junk.

IIRC, ATR and Aquarium Arts have pretty good pricing on the tanks themselves, although I think ATR has a little better pricing.

You can also check out Pets Inc., the last time I was in there, they had some good prices on nanos as well.

I have also heared that the fission skimmers are crap.

Both my nano's do so well with out skimers, I just don't think it is needed for these tanks. Just do a 50% water change every two weeks.

Why the LFS sell Fission skimmers is beyond me. Personally, I think it's an insult that they sell a piece of equipment they know does not work. It would be like knowingly selling a tank with silicon missing on one seam. I bought one locally and to some extent feel I was taken. I mean they knew it wouldn't work...why sell it to someone just starting out?

Remora skimmers are sensational for nano's. Take a look at my gallery. On my nano I have a skimmer, a phosban 150 reactor and a refugium (made from an aquaclear 110 filter case..)

I do a 5g water change every week or so.

Somewhat agree about the Fission...if you have tima to constantly adjust it, it can be made to work...other than that, it was too much of a pain for me due to the location of the tank that I didnt want to mwess with it. My tank is thriving without it. I do a 5 gallon water change every other week and it seems to work great for me. I bought my tank from nanocustoms.com (nanotuners). They had excellent customer service and would do business with them again. Locally, ATR or Pets Inc can take care of you. As for surface skimmers, I use the cassette tape mod. Look it up...it is very simple to make and works great.

The remora skimmer will not work with a hooded Nano like the JBJ unless you want to cut holes/mod your hood.

Personally, I like the look and build quality of the JBJ more so than the aquapod, but to each their own. Hope that helped

avoid the fission skimmer. Even with all the time in the world to adjust it, it only works properly for a few hours at a time.

Ok I decided on getting a 24 gallon nano. I just decided that the aqua pod was not something I would want. I going to do alot of mods on it such as adding halides. I think I might of found a good price on one . I am pretty excited about my decission I do have a smaller nano. althou I really like the size of the nano 24. this also lets me have my smaller fish in peaceful tank. i am wanting to even mod the hood for a ramora skimmer. and also mod for a fuge. and a surface skimmer. also condidering modifying for water circulation. this is my sons and my prodject. my hopes are that I find something that me and my son both enjoy doing. I enjoy my tanks thus with hopes that he enjoys salt water too. oh and also I find that nano's are fun. lol

if youre thinking of doing all those mods, definitely check out nanocustoms.com They sell complete setups with those mentioned mods for pretty good prices. They also sell DIY kits, etc. It will give you some good ideas. Good luck and enjoy the NC.

Ryan,
I just picked up a 12 gallon Nano Aquapod and I love it. My 2nd oldest daughter and I started it as a project as well and she loves Saltwater. I never thought I would want one, but now, I enjoy it almost as much as our big tank! Have a fun time doing that project with your son. :)

I got a 24 gallon nono dx for my daughter and me. Nice small tank won't cost to much LOL. I think I have about $1200 into it.

The new ones are supposed to have seperate light swiches and a built in skimmer I think. ATR was telling me about the new ones.
