Nano Stream Selection Help Please

Hi Roger. I recently noticed that Tunze has developed a new Nano Stream line. I’ve been wanting to try a Tunze pump for some time now, but my current tank was a bit too small for the larger Tunze models. Well I’m debating which model I should buy and was hoping you could help me decide. My tank is a 46 gallon bow front (36 inches long, 16 deep). It is a bare bottom set up, so sand storms are no concern of mine. My flow set up consists of two Seio 820s and one 350 magnum canister filter. I also keep my pumps running at full force 24/7 and plan to do the same with the Nano streams. I have a picture of my tank in my gallery to help you decide which model would be best for the application.

My goal is to increase the total flow of the tank, but I have never seen the Nano Streams in action, so I don’t have any real comparisons between them and the Seios. I did have duel Seio 1100s in my tank at one point, the flow did seem nice, but couldn’t bare looking at a pump that large or dealing with the extra wattage/heat. The 6045 sounds good if the numbers hold true in comparison to the Seios. However I’m leaning toward two 6055s, but since I will not be using a controller I’m wondering if that will be too great of an increase for my tank to withstand. And last question are these pumps overly noisy in comparison to standard aquarium pumps? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Mike

I would consider using a 6055 and a controller, I think you would be surprised at how much extra turbulence is created when the pump is pulsed from fast to slow every few seconds. The 6055 covers an area of about 4ft by 18", the 6045, about 3ft by 18". The 6045 will be out in a couple weeks, the 6055's not until December. They are very quiet, except they can be noisy on start up and should not be used on a wavemaker.

Thanks Roger for the feedback. I don’t really know anything about controllers. Could you give me a name / model of a controller that would work with the 6055? Also would a controller cause the pumps to create a lot of heat? Sorry for the added questions, but I am interested in researching your suggestion further. I really like the idea of being able to fine tune my flow requirements. Thanks Mike

At full power a 6055 will use 14W so the heat should be negligible, they use less power on lower speeds- down to 5W. The 7091 and 7095 will run these pumps.
