Nano Tank

What would I need to turn a 29 gallon nano tank into a seahorse tank?..I currently have it as a small reef tank with 150w metal halide.

What equipment do you have on it now? Replace the MH with a T-5, remove any stinging corals you might have it there. When it doubt? Check out the tankmate guide on SH.org.

tell us more about your setup and any tankmates you're planning on keeping, so we can address your tank better. however...

the first and foremost issue will be heat, as even tropical species should not be kept over 74*F to reduce the likelihood of bacterial infections. since SH are picky about light, i'd go with a technology other than MH. alternatively, add a chiller if you don't already have one (my SH setups are all chilled...it just plain makes it easier).

secondly, you'll likely need to rethink the flow...lose any PH's that a SH can get it's tail caught in. this is especially true if you're running "open" pumps such as Koralias larger than the nano model, which have a guard on them. also, you CAN have flow, but you need do do it creatively so the SH aren't plastered against the glass like bugs. they require some gentler areas for resting, and will seek out higher flow spots when they want.

Right now I have a 24g Aquapod HQI. It came with a pump that pumps 240gph..It has 2 sponge filters and 3 bio-balls. Right now inside the tank is a mandarin, 2 bar gobies, 1 bande watchmen goby, 1 coral banded shrimp..the coral in the tank is just zoo anthids

I think you're at the limit of what you're bioload can handle for a tank that size. At the very least, it wouldn't be able to handle the addition of seahorses, which are messy messy fish.

If that's the case, then the big thing you're going to have to worry about is temperature with the light. Either replace with t5's or PC, or you'll need a chiller.

Also, a 24 gallon is doable, but seahorses are messy so you will need to watch the water quality like a hawk.

The MH can be set to a higher position not to bother the tank temp, as of right now the tank only changes between one and two degrees with the light being on to off.. Is the filtration system that is built into the unit good enough? It doesnt seem to have a high flow at all
