Nano wavebox noise

Hi there

I just bought a used nano wavebox. Unfortunately the pump is rather noisy. I don't think that it's the normal wavebox darth vader sound as the pump makes the same noise when I let it run without the controller (allowing it to fill from the top).

I cleaned the pump before installing it. The impeller has a plastic disc that's 3 or 4 mm thick.

If i throttle the pump back to 15v (with a smaller wave as a result) it's almost quite, from 18v and up it's noisy.

Any ideas?

The shaft should not come out of the pump, if the metal shaft has come out, this is probably the cause. The disk description sounds correct. It is also possible the drive unit has some damage or defect.

Hi Roger

I will pull it apart and inspect. Where do I stand with quarantee
on this product? I bought it second hand so I can't produce an original receipt. But since the nano wavebox is such a fairly new product I suspect that it might be covered still? Do you think that it's possible to send it to Tunze in germany for repairs under waranty?

Buying a new drive Unit would end up having the wavebox cost me more than a completely new one.

Okay, so I took it apart and found, that when I just hold the pump in my hand without the box itself, the pump is dead quite at all volts - even starting and stopping.

So I quessing the problem is with the way the pump and the box connect to eachother causing vibration.

I made a little recording of the sound. Does the sound seem normal to others?

I'm not too perticular with sound, but this is just too much. I can hear it over everything else in the tank and I can hear it many many many feet awa.

That is a strange noise, it doesn't sound like the drive unit is the problem or the pump. Does it make this noise even when the wavebox is all the way under water? Did it make this noise for the old owner?

Dunno if it madethis noise for the old owner. It bought it online so didn't hear it - but I would imagine that this might be why he sold it.

I experimented a little. I wrapped the bottom plate holding the pump with tape giving it a tighter fit. I also added another tunze magnet to the box and used some thicker silicone pads. These things helped but still more noisy than I would expect.

Since the tape helped I believe the noise is some kind of rattle/vibration. Also when considering that the pump by itself is quite.

Fully submerged it's more quite. That rattle sound you can hear on the recording is not noticeable but there is still a rather loud humming sound. I have a 6055 that in comparison is more or less dead silent.

This is difficult to solve, I think you will need to send it to Tunze for service. It will make noise but much quieter than this. My guess would be the same as yours, the pump is not as tight as it should be. It may be possible to bend the locking tabs a little to make it tighter.

Hos do I go about sending it to Tunze? As I recall the
mails sent to the english tunze mail goes to you right? And would this service
check be covered by the waranty in your opinion?

I've heard that the turnaround time at Tunze in Germany has increased alot lately is that true?

Thank you.

Yes, they are behind, as far as warranty there will probably be a small charge, but not much, I would guess only shipping but they will call to discuss it if there will be a charge. I would email to info@tunze.com, or you can email info.english@tunze.com and I will forward it to a repair/parts person in Germany. Also, you could call, this is probably the fastest way.

Great thx Roger. I don't mind calling them but knowing germans their english is really poor. Do any of them speak any english?

The secretaries all speak good English, especially Diana, she lived in the US for many years. The technical people like the machinist and electrician don't speak much English and Mr. and Mrs. Tunze speak English but need time to think through the translation and you have to speak slowly and be patient, Mrs. Tunze answers a lot of the technical help calls, Diana usually answers the phone first. If it is just a parts request or warranty help, the secretaries can usually answer.
