ok I have a 60 gallon reef that is going awesome! my nano however is not so awesome....I do 2.5 gallon water changes every 3 days and a 5 gallon change once a week. I have a mechanical filter with carbon, a cpr intank fuge and a powerhead. I keep losing fish but ive lost: a clown and a pigmy angel but my clam, mandarin, and scallop are doing great. it seams to defy logic because my hardy thing die and my difficult to keep things last. my tank paramaters are normal and i have 25 lbs of LS and 30 LBS of LR my tank size is a 20 but my volume is really about 15 gallons....help

What do you mean by normal water parameters? Can you post your results.
Alot of people run a skimmerless nano. Most Nano protein skimmers are junk. I have a heavily stocked nano and I don't use a skimmer and my tank is doing great with the weekly partial water changes and using Purigen/Chemipure Elite/Chaeto/Live rock, sand.

I don't run skimmers on anything, and certainly don't do water changes every 3 days.
How do you mix your water change water?

ummm.... you will have to give us more than just a specific gravity.
pH
alkalinity
nitrates
nitrites
ammonia
temperature
how long do you mix your water before adding it into the aquarium
do you use a refractometer or a hydrometer

ph is 8.1 to 8.3
nitrates 0
nitrides 0
ammonia 0
temp is 75-79 ish (small thermometer thats hard to read)

my porslin crab didnt die....he molted and I swear it was his dead body!! much to my surprise I saw his hiding this morning!!

I mix my water and heat it up to temp then add it to the tank....i think i just got 2 bad fish and im being paranoid my shimp coral and fish (gobe and mandarin) are fine I have the bad habbit of constantly having my hands in the tank (im a little ocd about my reefs....it happens)

My humble opinion is you're too OCD. Based on your post and sig you're doing 50% water changes a week. keep your hands out of the tank and allow it to reach some sort of equilibrium. I have four nano tanks, no skimmers, feed heavily and get by with 10% water changes per week. Sometimes I even go ten days between water changes.

you are supposed to mix and sit for 1 day i thought .

i guess it really depends how you mix it...

i mix up about 3gallons of SW for my tank (~9 gallon of volume) in a 5g pail with a modified tunze6025 and an old stealth heater...after about 3 hours i check the SG with refractometer, if all is good i do my WC...i use Reefcrystals salt now though as i found the IO i had was not fully dissolving, plus IO numbers suck for a reef tank...

i dont have any salt problems after three hours of mixing, i dont see the need to mix for 24 and let it sit...

mind you if your mixing 50 gallons of water in a 55g drum with a Magdrive pump, then i could see the need to let it mix for a day...that is a lot of salt...

yeah ive been letting it sit and everything looks happy now...i rinse the filter floss because i have a habbit of over feeding

The mandarin will pick and frozen mysis from time to time but I have a pod culture to keep him happy
