Nanocropolis Phyto

Hey Everyone,

I ordered some starter cultures and microalgae food from Florida Aqua Farms several months ago to start growing some Nanocropolis Phytoplankton. The cultures are doing really well and I'm getting a density around 20 million cells per ml (highest density you can get). I have all that I can use so if any of you want any, I can bring some to the next club meeting. $5 per 16 oz bottle.

you bet. I'm figuring out it's a real chore keeping it going (requires daily attention) but it's fun and my tank needs it. If anyone else wants some next meeting, just let me know.

I wanted to try and grow phyto for my tank. I ordered starter cultures, measuring equip and fertilizer from Florida aqua farms. Then I setup airline tubing and an air pump with some rigid tubing into the 2 liter bottles. Then I follow the 7 day cycle to grow and split. That's it. Prob in it about $400 with everything.

That's what my oldest thought it was a few years ago.I had mine in a 2 liter bottle and she took a big swig out of it.She didn't care for it at all lol

haha! Ya we just had our carpet replaced and the carpet guys were calling it the "Nuclear Closet" =) on a side note, I just started a culture of Tigriopus californicus :) I setup a 10 gallon tank in the same closet with an air bar added. I added the phyto i'm culturing till the water was just lightly tinted. I also added a little chaeto from my fuge.

it's only been a couple of days, but the Tigger pods seem to be doing well. Everything i have read says that it takes about a month for the eggs to hatch. I've also heard about crashes, so hopefully mine will stay stable. more to come.

I thought the pods have a 40 day life cycle. So after 20 days you population should be double what u started with if u bought one of the bottles that had some in each stage of the cycle.
