NanoGurl,

Would it be possible for you to take some detailed pics of your stand and post here? I just got my 75g RR perfecto in this weekend (yay) and I have to build a stand for it. My sump is a 40 breeder which is the same width as the 75 so that is the reason I am building my stand instead of just buying one.

I really prefer the perfecto tank to the all-glass. It uses black silicone, has a corner overflow instead of in the middle of the tank and the plumbing is included with the tank. I am not sure if I am going to use their plumbing or not though but it sure is nice that they don't charge you extra for it unlike all-glass.

It's an okay camera for macro shots, but honestly I've had point and shoot digital cameras that did better. If you want macro shots, my suggestion would be to buy the body only, not the kit. Then buy a macro lense instead. Just depends on what you want to use it for. It's a very complicated camera and I was a bit disapointed with the macros it will take, but then again it's not really designed for macros with this lense. I think it's 6.1 mega pixels.

Sorry to hear about your zoas. The first round of zoas I had in my 90g all died. No idea what happened. This time around I've had great success. I"m really scared to move them to the 75.

I also like the black silicone on the perfecto tanks. Very clean look.

What kind of detailed photos are you looking for?

You may get some bubbles coming from the refuge into the return area. What pump are you going to use? Some have prefilters that reduce bubbles so you should be ok if you plan to use one of these.
 
The flow level should be slow enough on the fuge side to not cause microbubble problems provided the center return area is able to be high enough of a water level so as it doesn't really fall too far. But if when testing you have to keep it too low to accomidate the backflow from the tank pipes, then you might want to bubble trap it.
 
The sump design looks great, Nanogurl! See, I knew you could do it. :D You probably don't need the ball valve on the skimmer side, but probably won't hurt. You don't want to restrict the drain flow to the skimmer, just the fuge flow. Also, put a 90 degree elbow on the outlet into the fuge and a have it half-way submerged. That will help with bubbles and cut down on splashing. Good luck and can't wait to see it finished! :)
 
I kind of agree with Drummer, maybe if you turn the sump around so the skimmer side is on the far side of the drain line you would not have to worry about flow restriction. It would be easier to keep the refugium flow rate in check that way versus the other way around.
 
You could also add another bubble trap at both sides. If the water coming into the skimmer area is giving you alot of headaches direct feed the Sedra pump. I've been experimenting with it for a week and sure adds more flow and bubbles into the chamber. I'll be making a thread tom. about it and give you the link.
 
No reason to over think it. I think the design is great as is. Just remember to add some union or true-union ball valves for easy disconnect up around the bulkheads. ;)

Could you explain what you meant by unions? And the elbow in the fuge? You mean just high enough for a lil bit of the water to fit and some for air?

I thought about a 2nd trap but don't want to if i don't have too. I would be very interested to hear about that thread, thanks!

Sorry ....but I think your looking at a headache the way you have it drawn. You have to slow the water down above the ball valve to get it to go to the fuge and thats gonna bite you in the designer jean pocket at some point.

would be easier to reverse the sump so that you open the ball valve leading to the fuge a small amount and force the skimmer water to travel farther but be unobstructed.

and maybe use a gate valve here instead of a ball valve for easier adjusting.

just my opinion though.
 
Are you saying that to force the water into the T section and towards the fuge, I have to restrict the flow somehow into the skimmer section of the pump.. otherwise all of the water would flow their and bypass the fuge section?

If I removed the ball valve before the skimmer section with just the T section would it flow both ways or just straight down?

Thanks for your opinion, I'm trying to learn all I can so it all helps. I just don't see what the difference would be if I reversed the pump?
